The purpose of this study was to investigate the interactonal effects of stress, and social support children's on anxiety. This study ultimately intended to provide basic data which can be applied for school and counseling of children.
Subjects of this study were 301 elementary school students in Chungbuk province. The pilot study was done to examine the applicability of survey instruments. Data were analyzed by the frequency, percentage, Cronbach α, t-test, ANOVA, Tukey post-hoc test, correlation, and hierarchical regression analysis using SPSS 12.0 program.
The results of this research were as follows:
First, there were significant differences in anxiety according to gender and family style. For girls, the anxiety more preceived than boys. the others family and a nuclear family showed more anxiety than a large family.
Second, According to gender and famil style. Social support were significant differences. Girls perceived more teacher support than boys. a large family perceived more friend support than the others family.
Third, there was an interacting between family support and parent's stress on anxiety. For boys, when low parent's stress and low family support, children perceived the anxiety higher. When high parent's stress and low family support, children perceived the anxiey higher.
Forth, for girls, there was an interacting effect between friend support and friend stress on the anxiety. When low friend stress and low family support, children perceived the anxiety higher. When high friend stress and low family support, children perceived the anxiety higher.
Fifth, for girls, there was an interacting effect between friend support and friend stress on the anxiety. When low friend support and high friend stress, children perceived the anxiety higher.
Finally, there was an interacting effect between stress and social support on school children's anxiety problem. When the stress was low and social support was low, school children had more anxiety problem than children from low high social support. In contrast, when the stress was high, school children had a high level of anxiety problem regardless of social support.
