The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship among parenting attitudes of parents, self-control of students and their ego- -elasticity.
Questionnaires used by earlier studies were reconstructed to serve the purpose of the study. The subjects in this study were 216 students who were in their second year in Danyang Middle School in Danyang, north Chungcheong province. After a survey was conducted, the answer sheets from 199 students were analyzed except invalid ones. For statistical data handling, SPSS 10.0 for Windows program was utilized to make a t-test.
After the research questions posed in this study about the relationship among parenting attitudes, self-control and ego-elasticity were verified, the following findings were given;
First, the affectionate, autonomous, achievement-oriented and rational attitudes of parents had a positive impact on the self-control of the students investigated.
Second, the affectionate and achievement-oriented parenting attitudes exercised a positive influence on the subfactors of their ego-elasticity that involved interpersonal relations, vitality, curiosity and optimism, and the autonomous parenting style affected their vitality, curiosity and optimism in a positive manner. The rational parenting style exerted a positive influence on their vitality, emotional control, curiosity and optimism
The affectionate, autonomous, achievement-oriented and rational parenting styles had a very positive impact on improving the self-control and ego-elasticity of the students, and the finding had great implications for child character education.
