학습자 특성이 기초어휘 이해도에 미치는 영향 = Influence of student characteristics on the level of understanding of basic vocabulary

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구는 초등학생들의 기초어휘 이해도를 조사하여 학습자 특성이 기초어휘 이해도에 미치는 영향을 밝히는 데 목적을 두고 이루어졌다.
학생들에게 효과적으로 어휘를 지도하기 위해서는 학생들의 어휘 이해 수준을 정확하게 아는 것이 필수적이다. 특히 기초어휘는 생활 속에서 사용하는 빈도가 높고 일상 언어생활에 있어서 필수적인 낱말들의 집합이므로 이러한 기초어휘의 이해도가 어떤 양상을 보이고 있으며 학습자의 어떤 특성이 영향을 미치는가를 아는 것은 기초어휘 지도에 시사하는 바가 크다.
Ⅰ장에서는 본 연구의 필요성 및 목적을 고찰해 보고, 선행 연구를 검토함으로써 연구 문제를 설정하였다.
Ⅱ장에서는 기초어휘의 개념, 기초어휘 선정의 원리, 기초어휘 이해도, 어휘력에 영향을 미치는 학습자 특성 등을 이론적으로 고찰해 봄으로써, 본 연구의 검사 대상 기초어휘 선정 방법을 확정하고 어휘 이해도 척도를 정립하였으며 학습자 특성 요인을 선정하였다.
Ⅲ장에서는 연구 방법과 절차에 대하여 기술하였다.
본 연구는 대구시 수성구 소재 D초등학교 2, 3, 4, 5, 6학년 학생 484명을 대상으로 2007년 9월부터 2008년 5월까지 이루어졌다.
Ⅳ장에서는 기초어휘에 대한 이해 척도를 점수화하여 전체 기초어휘, 품사별, 빈도별로 구분한 어휘 이해도에 대해서 각 특성 집단별 응답 결과를 평균 척도 값 분석 및 t-검증하였다.
Ⅴ장에서는 연구 결과에서 나타난 초등학생들의 기초어휘 이해도 양상과 학습자 특성이 기초어휘 이해도에 미치는 영향을 정리하였다.
연구 결과 초등학생들의 기초어휘 이해도는 어휘 자체만으로도 의미를 이해할 수 있는 수준에 가까우며 3학년 무렵에는 거의 정착되어 가는 것으로 나타났다. 성차, 새로운 낱말에 대한 태도는 기초어휘 이해도에 영향을 미치지 않으나 학년, 독서 선호, 가정에서의 독서 시간은 기초어휘 이해도에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 기초어휘 지도의 기초 연구 자료를 제공하였다는 점, 이제까지 거의 연구된 적이 없는 새로운 방식으로 기초어휘 이해도를 측정하였다는 점에서 의의가 있으며 난이도가 다른 학습어휘를 대상으로, 학습자의 특성을 보다 세밀하게 구분한 연구를 제언한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The objective of this study is to study the aspect of level of understanding of basic vocabulary of elementary school students and find the influence of student characteristics on the level of understanding of basic vocabulary.
For effective vocabulary teaching, it is essential to understand the level of vocabulary understanding of the students accurately. Especially, the basic vocabulary is a combination of essential words in everyday life with high frequency therefore, to understand the aspect of level of understanding of these basic vocabulary and which characteristics of the students have the influence would have great significance in teaching basic vocabulary.
In Chapter I, I studied the necessity and objective of this study and reviewed preceding studies to establish the study problem.
In Chapter II, I studied the theoretical aspect of concept of basic vocabulary, principle of selecting basic vocabulary, level of understanding of basic vocabulary, and the student characteristics that influence on vocabulary ability to decide the method of selecting basic vocabulary, established the standard of level of understanding of vocabulary, and selected the student characteristic factors.
In Chapter III, I stated the study method and process.
The subject of this study is 484 students in grade 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 in D elementary school located in Susung-gu, Daegu from September 2007 to May 2008.
In Chapter IV, the standard of understanding of basic vocabulary was scored to analyze and conduct t-test for average standard on response results of each characteristic group on the entire basic vocabulary and the level of understanding of vocabulary which is classified by the parts of speech and frequency.
In Chapter V, I organized the aspect of level of understanding of basic vocabulary of elementary school students and the influence of student characteristics on level of understanding of basic vocabulary from the study result.
As a result, the level of understanding of basic vocabulary of elementary school students are close to the level of understanding the meaning by the vocabulary itself and in around grade 3, it showed that it was almost being settled. Although the gender and attitude towards new words did not have influence on the level of understanding basic vocabulary, the grade, reading preference and the reading time at home had influence on the level of understanding of basic vocabulary. This study is significant from the aspect that it provided the basic study information for teaching basic vocabulary and measured the level of understanding of basic vocabulary through new means that was rarely used. I propose a study that classifies the student characteristics in more detail for the subject of study vocabulary in different levels of difficulty.
