무용/동작치료가 청각장애 아동의 자기표현과 학교생활적응에 미치는 효과

국문 초록 (Abstract)

청각의 손실이라는 신체적 결함을 가지고 있는 청각장애 아동의 의사소통 실패의 경험은 위축과 불안, 자신감 결여라는 심리적 문제를 발생시킨다. 그리고 이러한 문제는 청각장애 아동이 스스로의 생각을 상대방에게 전달하는 자기표현에 어려움을 경험하게 하는데, 이로 인해 사회적 행위가 부족하게 되고 타인과의 상호작용의 기회를 제한하여 사회적 적응을 어렵게 만든다. 그 중에서도 청각장애 아동이 일반교육 현장에 통합하는 학교생활적응에 직접적인 영향을 미치게 된다.
이에 본 연구에서는 무용/동작치료 프로그램이 청각장애 아동의 학교생활적응향상과 자기표현에 미치는 효과를 검증하는데 그 목적을 두고 있다.
연구의 목적을 달성하기 위한 연구 문제는 다음과 같다.
연구문제 1. 무용/동작치료는 청각장애 아동의 자기표현을 증진시킬 것인가?
연구문제 2. 무용/동작치료는 청각장애 아동의 학교생활적응에 어떠한 변화를 줄 것인가?
위의 목적을 위하여 연구대상은 서울시에 소재한 000복지관에서 방과 후 프로그램을 이용하고 있는 청각장애 아동으로 모집된 신청자 중 사전검사를 통해 자기표현과 학교생활적응이 낮게 나타난 총 16명의 청각장애 아동을 선별하였고, 실험집단과 비교집단으로 8명씩 나누어 구성하였다. 그리고 2시간씩 3회의 진행자에 의한 사전관찰이 진행된 후 2008년 3월13일부터 5월 29일까지 주 1회 60분씩 12회기의 무용/동작치료를 진행하였다.
본 연구의 무용/동작 치료는 다양한 양극의 움직임 경험을 통해 전체성을 이루고 조화와 균형을 목적으로 하는 Whitehouse의 양극성을 적용하여 진행되었다. 신체와 정서와의 조화와 통합을 통해 적절한 자기표현을 돕고, 집단 안에서 구성원과 관계를 긍정적으로 형성할 수 있도록 하였다.
청각장애 아동의 자기 표현력과 학교생활적응력을 평가하기 위해 자기표현검사와 학교생활적응검사를 프로그램의 사전-사후에 실시하였다. 자료 분석은 청각장애 아동이 무용/동작치료 프로그램 참여 전과 후에 어떠한 변화를 나타냈는지 알아보기 위해서 일반선형모형을 실시하였다.
본 연구의 결과를 살펴보면 다음과 같다.
첫째, 무용/동작치료는 청각장애 아동의 자기표현을 향상시키는데 효과가 있다. 이들의 하위 요인에서는 내용적 자기표현과 비언어적 자기표현이 유의미하게 향상되었고, 음성적 요인은 통계적으로 유의미 하지는 않았지만 긍정적인 변화를 보였다.
둘째, 무용/동작치료는 청각장애 아동의 학교생활적응의 향상을 확인하였다. 이들의 하위 요인에서는 교사-학생 관계, 교우관계, 학교수업 면에서 효과를 증명하였으나, 학교규칙을 향상시키기에는 미흡하였다.
결론적으로 본 연구는 무용/동작치료 프로그램을 청각장애 아동에게 실시하여 자기표현과 학교생활적응의 향상을 통해 프로그램의 효과를 입증했다는 점에서 의의가 있다. 본 연구를 통해 청각장애 아동에게 기능향상을 위한 특수 교육적 접근뿐만 아니라 심리 치료적 접근으로서 표현예술치료의 한 방법으로 무용/동작치료가 치료적인 대안이 될 수 있음을 시사한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

When children with hearing disabilities fail to communicate with others, it causes psychological problems such as being daunted and anxious, and lacking of self-confident, Moreover, these problems make children hesitate to express their own opinions, leading further shortage of social activities and limit interactions between people. In other words, hearing impaired children feel difficult to adjust to social life, especially average school life.
This study is dedicated to examine effects of Dance/Movement therapy to enhance self-expression skills and school adjustment ability among hearing impaired children.
The contents of this study include two issues,
1. Would Dance/Movement therapy program enhance self-expression skills?
2. Would there any change in terms of school adjustment ability after Dance/ Movement therapy program'?
In order to achieve the goal, I picked up 16 hearing impaired children from ***welfare facility through a preliminary examination. They all participate in after-school programs and have low self-expression skills and school adjustment ability. Among them 8 were in the experimental group and the other 8 were in the control group. The Dance /Movement therapy program was undertaken from 2008 Mar. 13th to May 29th. Before starting the program, 16 children were observed 3day for two hours each by the program operator.
Dance/Movement therapy program includes the concept of Polarity (by Mary Whitehouse) which aims at reconciliation and balance though a wide variety of polar moving experiences. With this concept, the program was designed to elevate self-expression skills develop relationship in the group through the harmony of body and mind.
Both self-expression skills test and school adjustment ability test were carried out before and after the program in order to evaluate the hearing impaired children's improvement. Data had been analyzed by General Linear Model(GLM) and yielded two noticeable results,
First, Dance /Movement therapy program has a meaningful effect on the children. With this program the children felt easier to express their thinking by language as well as body language. Even though it is hard to show in a numerically sense, negative factors have dwindled. It is also a promising result. Second, Dance/Movement therapy program help hearing impaired children become better to live a school life. Especially they made steady progress in relationship with teachers and peers. Also, their class participation increased. However there was no development in obeying school rules.
In conclusion, this study is significant on the grounds that the program is efficacious in aiding hearing impaired children to upgrade their self-expression skills and school adjustment ability. Therefore, for hearing impaired children not only functional based therapeutic special education but also psychological based treatment, like Dance/ Movement therapy program could be an effective solution.
