This study has the purpose of exploring how efficiently Draw a Story test can screen the depression and the aggression about high school students and for this, DAS response was compared with BDI and K-YSR scores result.
The objects of study were 524(311 female, 213 male) high school students in grade 11, 12 living in Incheon and Seoul. As instruments of study, Beck's depression test, Aggression scale of Korean-Youth Self Report and DAS A version were used. The following are the results.
First, the aggression and depression level of female students was higher than that of male students. And in the whole group, the higher the depression level is, the higher the aggression level is.
Second, in DAS emotional content, there was a significant difference between the depressive group and the non-depressive one, and the higher the depression level was, the lower DAS emotional content record was. Also there was the highly significant difference in scoring 1 point of emotional content in the depressive group.
In DAS self-image, there were significant differences between the depressive group and the non-depressive one, and the higher the depression level was, the lower the DAS self-image record was. In scoring 1 point of self-image, more than three times as many students in the depressive group scored .lpoint compared with the non-depressive group.
Third, in DAS emotional content, there were significant differences between the aggressive group and the non--aggressive one. The higher the aggression level was, the lower emotional content scores was. Also there was highly significant difference in scoring 1 point in the aggressive group.
DAS self-image showed no significant difference between the aggressive group and non-aggressive one, but the concrete score distribution of self-image showed the significant difference between the two groups. Concretely speaking, in the aggression group, the students of self-image scoring 5 points(31,6%) showed the highest rate, which was 1.8 times higher than those in the non-aggressive group. But it was showed that in the aggressive group, the students of self-image scoring 1 point (25.5%) were 3.7 times higher than those in the non-aggressive group.
Fourth, there was significant difference of depression and aggression level between groups according to the emotional content and self-image level,
These research results indicate that DAS test is a useful tool to evaluate the depression, but for the aggression partly it has some limitations. And this study on DAS task is meaningful because it can provide us with basic data for the instrument of art therapy assessment.
