Video self-modeling(VSM) is a technique of modeling his(or her) own behavior by himself(or herself) through video recording, and it has an effect on intervention in behavior problems of disabled children in the way of decreasing improper social behavior or increasing proper social behavior, or satisfying both cases together. Children with developmental disabilities show various maladjusted behavior, in such case it is important to modify their maladjusted behavior to positive behavior especially because they are in the period of infancy or childhood.
This study is intended to find out what effect video self-modeling intervention has on developmentally disabled children's behavior of squaring away after they finish playing and of sitting up straight on a chair. Also, this study is planned to compare a way of video self-modeling intervention in which the video is not edited with a way of video self-modeling intervention in which the video is edited so as to find out which way is more effective for the above mentioned two behaviors. The way of video self-modeling intervention in which video is not edited is to record maladjusted behavior as it is and watch the video using the video discrimination training method. On the other hand, the way of video self-modeling intervention in which the video is edited is to edit the recorded video so as to make it appear that the relevant infant has performed positive behavior, then watch the edited video clip with the video discrimination training method.
In this study, video self-modeling intervention has been performed using the ABAC design which is one of the test designs for a single case in order to verify the functional relation between an independent variable and a dependent variable.
As a result of the research, it is revealed that the way of video self-modeling intervention in which the video is not edited has a little effect on both adapted behaviors, and the way of video self-modeling intervention in which the video is edited is effective for improvement of both adapted behaviors. On the basis of the research results, it is regarded that more various researches on video self-modeling intervention for children with developmental disabilities, in other words, more various researches on adapted behavior using various situations(integration), editing methods and so on, are required.
