This research focuses on appearance management of male/female adults through skin care and meridian massage therapy, and their satisfaction from such services. First, the usage of such methods were researched. Afterwards, the differences on usage of such services and satisfaction rate based on characteristics of population statistics, whether he/she has used the appearance management before, frequency, problem types, were analyzed. For data gathering, 489 adults at age between 20 to 50 were surveyed, regardless of whether they have experienced skin care or meridian massage therapy before. 454 responses were used for the final analysis, with 35 responses exempted due to insufficient responses. Chi-square test, crosstabulation analysis, factor analysis, and one-way ANOVA were used for the analysis, and Duncan's multiplerange test was used for post-hoc analysis.
According to the survey, there were more people who have experienced meridian massage therapy than who have not. It was discovered that people with such experience have received the massage on the entire body, and frequency of service usage was 1~2 times per month. For expenses, it was found that most people spend less that 200,000 won for the service every month. On the other hand, the survey showed that the high price of massage was the main reason for test subjects to not receive the service. The main reason for using the service was found to be to take care of the body shape. Also, the main place for receiving the service was meridian massage therapy/skin care clinic. The survey showed that people receive information about the meridian massage therapy mostly through friends or neighbors.
It was discovered that there were more people who have received skin care previously than who have not. Surveyors responded that they mostly receive skin care on their faces. Also, most of the surveyors responded that the frequency for receiving skin care was found to be 1-2 times per two weeks. In addition, there was highest rate for people who use less than 200,000 won per month for skin care. Time consumption was the main reason for not using the skin care, for the people who did receive skin care in the past. Also, when using the service, the surveyors responded that the cost of service is the main concern. Skin care clinic of cosmetics firm has shown to be the main place for the users to receive the skin care service. The survey showed that people receive information about the meridian massage therapy mostly through friends or neighbors.
There was no differences among groups categorized by gender, age and income level on skin care and meridian massage therapy. According to the result of the survey on skin troubles, there was found to be no differences among groups categorized by gender, age and income level. All of the groups have chosen wrinkles as the biggest problem among skin troubles. On the other hand, the recognition of expansion of capillary vessels as a skin trouble was found to be lowest in all groups.
The result of research showed that 75% of male subjects do not receive skin care service. The group with most frequent use for skin care service consisted of subjects over age 50, with income level of 2,000,000~3,000,000 won per month. All of the groups have shown that they received skin care service mainly on their faces. Also, the group which did not receive skin care in the past have shown that the main reason for not using the service was due to consumption of time, not the burden of the cost. Prior to the survey, it was postulated that the group with high-income level would receive more expensive skin care service more frequently, but it was found that the difference is limited to difference between male and female group instead. Overall, it was found that the female groups tend to care more about their appearances and thereby use skin care more.
According to the analysis on the survey result on meridian massage therapy, greater amount of male subjects have shown to have received the therapy, which is contrary to the survey on skin care. Female subjects have also shown a high-rate in receiving the massage. Many of the subjects, regardless of their age groups, were already receiving therapy, and most people responded that they received massage at the scale of entire body at most times. The responses also showed that subjects mostly received massage 1~2 times per two weeks, and 1~2 times per month. Expenses for service was found to be 100,000~150,000 won. The main reason for not receiving the therapy was that the cost of service seemed too expensive. Hence, it can be seen that the highest-income group(4,000,000 or more per month) is using the service most frequently.
There was statistical difference only in whether the subject will continue to use the skin care service, among the categories such as attitude on skin care, frequency and continual usage of skin service in the future. The degree of attitude on skin care and desire for continual usage of skin service in the future have shown to be higher in groups which use skin care service 1~2 times per week or 1~2 times per 2 weeks than groups which receive skin care service 1~2 times per 3 weeks or 1~2 times per 4 weeks.
Overall, it can be seen that depending on the section of the body receiving skin care, there are differences in attitude on skin care, desire for continual usage of skin care service, and satisfaction after service. There was highest rate of response that subjects receive skin care on their entire body. Greater number of subjects have responded that their skin type is normal, and that they are more sensitive over attitudes on skin care. For satisfaction after skin care service, the group with oily or normal skin have shown a higher rate of satisfaction.
Among the skin trouble types, wrinkles has been shown as the biggest problem. The highest rate for frequency in using skin care clinics have shown to be 1~2 times per two weeks. The group with wrinkles responded that they are most likely to use the skin care service 1~2 times per two weeks, while responses that they use 1~2 times per week showed to be the lowest. The group with acne as the skin trouble mostly responded that they use skin care 1~2 times per month. Finally, the group with freckles as the skin trouble mostly responded that they use skin care 1~2 times per week.
