In youth group, we need to teach about sportsmanship so that young players can think and practice sportsmanship on the field. The propose of this research is to identify problems and find solutions for sportsmanship education in youth group. This paper will talk about conditions and problems on current sportsmanship education and propose improvements.
Fifteen people participated in this research: 6young players who have been learning golf more than two years whose golf talent continue to grow and understand the education details very well, 3 teachers who have been teaching the youth group more than four years with philosophy and passion about teaching, 2 pro-players who have been taught about youth group golf education who know the importance of sportsmanship, 2 parents who have interests in personality education who not only concern about their child's golf skill but child's growth as a whole person, 2 golf association officials who have great interests in golf education. The paper collects information by analyzing education program, interviewing in depth, and observing with participation. Two methods have been exercised: incident's records analysis and inductive categories analysis.
Followings are the conclusions of the research until now. First in the education of young golf players, there was no place that taught sportsmanship systematically. The sportsmanship is not taught within organized programs, but taught informally under certain circumstances. A research by one academy states that there is no program with sportsmanship being central theme. Instead, some teachers educate sportsmanship to students in situations being needed.
Second, there are four dimensions to the problems in the education of sportsmanship to young golf players: objectives, contents, methods, circumstances, and manpower. For objective problems, teachers, players, and parents all have lack of perception in the matter. This is because sportsmanship is not well defined in golf. In contents wise, there is no systematic education program, and therefore sportsmanship is taught based on teacher's personal experiences. For methods, golf education is focused and centered on results, therefore golf education is aimed on skills not sportsmanship. For circumstances, contents of the golf education is interfered too much by players' parents, and true nature of the education has been changing. Lastly for manpower, teachers with lack of education experiences have lack of understanding of education.
Third, there is need for improvements on objectives, contents, methods, circumstances, and manpower for the education of sportsmanship. Teachers, parents, and players all need to reconsider the objective of golf education and have more knowledge on sportsmanship. To do this, first there needs to be an accurate definition of sportsmanship. For contents, by establishing concrete program, education methods needs to be systemized. For methods, by changing result focused education to content focused education, there needs to be a golf education established for players. By focusing the education on curriculum, the importance of sportsmanship needs to be taught. For parents' interference pointed out in circumstance matter, teachers, parents, and students rethink their role and correctly define each one's role. For manpower, by educating teachers and widening their thoughts, teachers need to learn the importance of sportsmanship and method of education.
Lastly, to practice the above, we need to teach students what kind of players they need to be by establishing the objective of golf education. Sportsmanship needed in golf is defined. Also teaching students by coaching in one, education needs to be taught to put skills, knowledge, and behavior together.
