Most people living in modern society have experiences of some physical and mental stress in their process of adapting themselves to the rapidly changing society. And in personal viewpoint, socially-demanded roles burdened to a subject working at schools, companies and home could result in emotional imbalance and that highly tends to cause imbalance of autonomic nervous system.
The purpose of this article is to search methods for activation and balance of autonomic nerve of human body. And for this, far-IR thermotherapy and aroma massage therapy are used and compared each other in order to promote health and develop such methods.
Subjects for research
Among women in their 30s to 55 years old who are living in Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi-do and understand the purpose of this project and could participate in regular clinical programs and questionnaire, 36 are selected and categorized into three groups of group 1, group2 and group 3 by age.
Methods and tools for research
In this study, HRV(Heart Rate Variability) that influences sympathetic nervous system and parasympathetic nervous system is measured and its change before and after the test is compared and analyzed.
Clinically-proven far-IR, aroma therapy and lymphdrainage to the change of autonomic nervous system are applied and profile of mood states(POMS) is made and HRV is measured by ABM. Participants fill in (POMS) after their completion of the programs over the total 6 times, twice a week during 3 weeks of experiment and their HRV is also measured.
Group1 gets far-IR for 40 minutes, group 2 has aroma therapy-lymphdrainage for 40 minutes and group 3 is provided both of them.
The conclusion of the research is following:
Group 1. After the analysis of (POMS) of participants who get far-IR thermotherapy, statistically significant change is shown between preliminary and post inspection and confusion has a significant change between preliminary and post inspection but its statistical significance is low.( p<0.05)
Group 2. From the analysis result of those who get involved in aroma massage therapy, anxiety, depression and fatigue show a statistical significance between preliminary and post inspection. Rage and confusion reveal their differences between preliminary and post inspection but their statistical significance is low. Vitality shows no significant difference between preliminary and post inspection.( p<0.05)
Group 3. For those who get the two methods at the same time, the resulted analysis shows statistically significant change in fatigue, confusion and other factors between preliminary and post inspection. In addition, anxiety and rage also show difference between preliminary and post inspection, but low statistical significance.( p<0.05)
HRV is measured to investigate the change of autonomic nervous system. For the verification of the change between preliminary and post inspection for the participants, Kolmogorov-Smirnov test is executed and the result is shown below.
Group 1. Variables of TP, LF, HF, Mean HRT, SDNN show all changes in their results after preliminary and post inspection, but no statistical significance.( p<0.05)
Group 2. From subjects get aroma massage therapy, their results of TP, LF, HF show changes between preliminary and post inspection, but no statistical significance, while the analyzed results of Mean HRT, SDNN showing statistical significance between preliminary and post inspection.( P<0.05)
Group 3. For participants who get both far-IR and aroma massage therapy, their variables of TP, LF, HF, Mean HRT, SDNN have changes but are not statistically significant.( p<0.05)
The study selects far-IR thermotherapy and aroma lymphdrainage among other experiments which influence the change of autonomic nervous system of human body and compares them and makes participants write out their (POMS) before and after test for the comparison of the test results.
