Recently, the development of seamless knit wear made it is possible that the production of competitive knit wear. In addition to that, the simplification of the production process and the shortening of the latency time and the reduction of the man hour for the production can be obtained because the cutting and the sewing processes are not necessary.
The knitting method of waist dart and that of the sleeves for improvement of movement adaptability were studied in this thesis. The purpose of this study is proposing a knitting method that is suitable for the bodies of women in their 20’s and can enhance aesthetic aspect and wearing satisfaction. An additional purpose is supplying the information for the development of higher value-added seamless knit wear by analyzing the appearance and the wearing satisfaction of seamless knit one-piece and sewed knit one-piece.
Four kinds of seamless knit one-pieces were implemented by different knitting method each other. The inspection of the exterior, the sensory test of movement adaptability and the analysis of the sag and the appearance of hem line were included in this study. Additionally, 9 kinds of seamless knit one-pieces that have different bind-off length and/or position at the axilla were produced. The sensory evaluation of their movement suitability and the analysis of their sliding distance with respect to the human motions were executed. Finally, sensory test and comparison of the appearance and the movement adaptability of the seamless knit one-piece and the sewed knit one-piece were undertaken.
The results of this study were listed below.
1. Exterior evaluation of the four samples having different waist dart knitting method results that the sample with outside narrowing and widening get low grade. Thus, we can see that the method having only outside narrowing and widening for waist shaping can cause problems. In addition to that, the sample with inside narrowing and widening get highest grade for almost all test items. So, the knitting method that has only waist dart narrowing and widening is the most suitable for the waist shaping. The dressing evaluation results that the knitting method of waist dart affect only on the exterior but not on the movement adaptability of the seamless knit one-piece.
2. To see the effect of the bind-off length at the axilla, a movement adaptability test was undertaken for 4 samples that have bind-off at bodices and for 4 samples that have bind-off at bodices and sleeves. Its result was that the samples with small bind-off lengths represent better wearing satisfaction than the samples which have large bind-off lengths. The comparison of the sliding distances at the hem, waist and sleeves with respect to the tester’s motions also shows that the sample having small bind-off makes better result than the sample with large bind-off. It was observed that the optimal length of bind-off was 2 cm for the improvement of the sleeve functionality.
The result of the movement adaptability test for the 3 samples with different bind-off at the axilla respectively and the comparison of the sliding distance with respect to motion represent that the samples having the bind-off only at the bodice or at the bodice and the sleeves got the better grade than the case of no bind-off. Since the sample with bind-off of 2 cm at bodice got the best result in the test, this knitting method was analyzed to be the most suitable one for the improvement of sleeve motion adaptability and its functionality.
3. The exterior inspection of the seamless knit one-piece and the sewed knit one-piece presents that the seamless knit one-piece made fewer wrinkles at the front part of the waist but the sewed one-piece got the better results than the seamless one for the other curved parts. The dressing evaluation result demonstrates that the seamless or the sewed knitting method effect only on the appearance but not on the movement adaptability for 12G knit one-piece. It is no doubt that seamless knit wear is very productive in time and material aspect and its future is very promising. It is evident that the development of seamless knit program which can complement the weak points is remarkably needed, because the flexibility of pattern modification and the diversity of the knitting method of seamless knit wear are limited.
4. The followings are the knitting method for improving the appearance and the wearing satisfaction of seamless knit one-piece proposed in this study. Shaping at the waist should use inside narrowing and widening. From the analysis of the sag measurement data, the side-seam should be treated with double stitch to prevent sag and the front sag length should be set 1 cm. Finally, the bind off treatment for the axilla should be located only at the bodice and the length should be 2 cm. The compressed pattern and the development pattern are proposed as the suggestions.
As notified in above, a knitting method for seamless knit one-piece that can improve aesthetic aspect and wearing satisfaction was proposed and the information for the development of higher value-added seamless knit wear was provided. It is expected that this study can be helpful for the development of a seamless knit wear and can improve the aesthetic aspect and the competitiveness of the seamless knit wear.
