The present study analyzed the effects of trunk muscle strength training using sling exercise therapy and neuro developmental treatment on mild diplegic cerebral palsy children’s static and dynamic plantar pressure during walking and the effects of change in plantar pressure in static standing and dynamic moving on their left?right symmetry and stability using a plantar pressure meter (Parotec System), and determined whether sling exercise therapy is appropriate for training trunk muscle strength in children with mild cerebral palsy.
The subjects of this study were 10 children with mild diplegic cerebral palsy aged between 10~14 (8 males and 2 females). By measuring plantar pressure, we analyzed the effect of trunk stabilization in sling exercise therapy on walking and the effect of neuro developmental treatment on trunk stability and walking and on left?right symmetry, stability and balance. Data collected from the experiment were statistically processed and analyzed, and the results are as follows.
First, in the analysis of static plantar pressure of the sling exercise therapy group, the pressure sensing points of left and right plantar pressure changed but the difference between the left and right sides increased. In dynamic plantar pressure, the balance of plantar pressure between the left and right sides was improved after the treatment, and as a result trunk stability and weight bearing and shift were improved.
Second, in the analysis of static plantar pressure of the neuro developmental treatment group, the pressure sensing points changed and the balance between the left and right sides was stable. In dynamic plantar pressure, the pressure sensing points changed, but after the treatment the difference between the left and right sides increased and the stability of walking decreased.
Third, in the comparison of static plantar pressure symmetry, improvement was higher in the neuro developmental treatment than in the sling exercise therapy group, and in the comparison of dynamic plantar pressure symmetry, the sling exercise therapy group showed considerable improvement in left?right symmetry and enhanced trunk and walking stability, and the neuro developmental treatment group showed a decrease in the difference of symmetry after the treatment but its left?right stability was lower than that of the sling exercise therapy group.
According to the results of treatment of spastic diplegic palsy children by group in this study, the neuro developmental treatment group showed stability in a static state similar to or higher than that before treatment, and the sling exercise therapy group showed improvement in walking and weight shift in a dynamic state.
