신체의 사회적 유용성에 대한 신념 : 신체도구성과 신체소비행동 = (The) belief about body instrumentality: body instrumentality and body-related consumption behavior

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 도구적 측면에서 신체의 사회적 의미를 측정하는 신체도구성 척도를 개발하기 위해 남녀 대학생을 대상으로 두 개의 연구를 실시하였다.
연구 1에서는 신체도구성을 측정하는 63문항으로 이루어진 질문지를 구성하여 333명의 대학생 남녀의 응답을 이용해 자료를 요인분석한 결과, 외모도구성 19문항, 건강도구성 16문항의 신체도구성 문항을 개발하였다. 또한 신체도구성은 외모도구성과 건강도구성 모두에서 연인관계, 대인관계, 사회적 성취의 세 개의 구성요소로 이루어져 있으며 각 하위척도는 신뢰로운 것으로 나타났다.
연구 2에서는 신체도구성 척도의 요인구조의 안정성 및 신뢰도와 타당도를 검증하기 위해 확증적 요인분석 및 수렴 및 변별타당도와 준거타당도를 검증하였다. 320명으로 구성된 대학생 남녀의 자료를 이용하여 분석한 결과, 신체도구성척도의 요인구조의 안정성이 확인되었으며 신체도구성은 신체편향성, 신체조작성, 신체존중감, 건강관심도 및 외모감시와 유의한 상관이 있으며, 남녀를 대상으로 신체도구성을 측정하기에 타당한 척도임이 검증되었다. 뿐만 아니라 남성을 제외한 여성표본에서 신체도구성의 외모도구성은 외모관리소비행동을, 건강도구성은 건강관리소비행동을 유의미하게 설명하는 것으로 나타났다. 그러므로 본 신체도구성 질문지는 생활의 사회적 영역에서 건강과 외모의 도구성을 매우 신뢰롭고 타당하게 측정하는 도구로 결론내릴 수 있다. 마지막으로 본 연구의 의의와 제한점 및 추후연구문제에 대해 논의하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The present study aimed to develope and validate Body Value Inventory-Body instrumentality scale(BVI-BI) that assesses the social function of one's physical image based on certain beliefs or assumption associated with different body parts.
The body instrumentality scale was initially constructed by 33-item and administered it, along with other validated assessments to 633 college students(370 women and 283 men). The end result was a 33-item of the inventory which was composed with two subscales: appearance instrumentality and physical health instrumentality. The inventory included three factors: mating, social achievement, and interpersonal relationships. For both gender, the composite BVI-BI and its three factors had high internal consistency and were significantly converge with other body value inventory which were body operability and body inclination, body esteem(appearance, weight, health, overall), self-surveillance, and health interest. In BVI-IV, the physical health instrumentality subscales showed significant gender difference, whereas the appearance instrumentality subscale did not. I also examined grade difference and degree of individual's spirituality on BVI-BI. Body Value Inventory-Body instrumentality scale(BVI-BI) had unique contribution to the prediction of body-related consumption.
