The study examined the effects of a short-term enneagram group counseling on male high school students' self identity, empathy ability and interpersonal relationships. The participants were 76 students recruited from two classes at G highschool in Seoul. The experiment group with 38 students experienced 12 enneagram group counseling sessions (20 minutes per session). The other 36 students in the control group did not have the group counseling sessions. The pre-test and post-test were administered before and after the enneagram counseling program.Measures used include: (a)self-identity developed by Park, Ah Chung(1996) and modified by Lee, Seung Kook(1999), (b)empathy ability developed by Davis(1980) and modified by Kim, Sung Eun(1997) (c)Interpersonal Reactivity Index developed by Schlein and Guerney(1971), translated by Lee, Hyung Deuk and Moon, Sun Mo(1982) and modified by Jung, Ho Kwon(2003).The collected data were analyzed using t-test, Multivariate Analysis of Covariance, Repeated Measures Analysis of Variance, and Repeated Measures Multivariate Analysis of Variance. The result showed that the enneagram group counseling program had positive effects on empathy ability and interpersonal relationships for male high school students. It was found, however, that the enneagram group counseling program did not have a significant effect on self identity. In conclusion, the study results provided support for the effectiveness of an enneagram group counseling program for male high school students' empathy ability and interpersonal relationships.
