대학도서관의 RSS를 이용한 정보서비스 활성화 방안

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구에서는 다양한 학문분야에 대한 연구가 이루어지는 대학에서 도서관이 교수나 학생을 비롯한 이용자들의 연구와 학습을 효과적으로 지원하기 위한 RSS 기술을 이용한 정보서비스의 확장 가능성에 대해 알아보고자 하였다.
우선 해외의 RSS 서비스 사례를 조사하였다. 사례조사 대상은 문헌연구와 웹조사를 통해 RSS 서비스를 활발하게 제공하고 있다고 보여지는 미국의 MIT 도서관과 위스컨신 주립대학 도서관, 영국의 리버풀 대학교를 선정하였다. 사례조사 결과, 해외 대학도서관들의 공통적인 특징은 내부의 정보에 대한 RSS 서비스 외에도 외부 정보원의 관련 자료에 대한 RSS 피드를 이용할 수 있도록 이용자들에게 각종 리스트를 서비스하고 있었다.
해외 선진 사례를 조사한 후 국내 대학도서관의 RSS 서비스 현황에 대해서 조사하고자 전국 총 201개 대학도서관 중 현재 RSS 서비스를 제공하고 있는 11개 대학도서관 중 9개 기관을 대상으로 전화와 이메일을 이용하여 인터뷰를 실시하였다. 인터뷰 결과 공지사항, 신착도서, 소장자료 검색결과 등에 대해서 RSS 서비스를 제공하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 하지만 국내 대학도서관에서 제공하는 RSS 서비스는 내부에서 생성되는 정보의 일부분에 한정된 것으로 조사되었다.
해외 사례와 국내 현황을 조사하여 비교해 본 결과, 국내 대학도서관에서는 해외의 선진사례들에서 볼 수 있는 도서관에서 구독하는 데이터베이스나 전자저널 등에서 제공하는 RSS 서비스에 대한 안내나 외부 정보원에 대한 RSS 서비스 안내 등의 세분화된 RSS 서비스는 볼 수 없었다. 다만 웹 트렌드나 정보통신 기술의 흐름에 따라 RSS 서비스를 도입하여 제공하고 있다는 것을 알 수 있었다.
현재 RSS 서비스를 제공하는 정보제공자는 증가하고 있으며, 그들이 제공하는 RSS 피드를 구독하는 이용자 또한 늘어나는 추세이다. 반면 아직 국내 대학도서관의 RSS 서비스에 대한 사서와 이용자들의 인식이 낮고 RSS 서비스가 극히 단순한 부분에 그치고 있다. 앞으로 대학도서관에서는 RSS 서비스의 활성화를 통해 이용자들의 연구와 학습을 더욱 효과적으로 지원할 수 있을 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study researches to explore the possibilities for expansion of the information services using RSS technology in order for the library to effectively support the research and learning of the users in the university where own research on the various academic fields.
First of all, this case study edkxamines RSS services overseas. The selected cases are the libraries of MIT and University of Wisconsin-Madison in the United States, and that of the University of Liverpool in England, which are proven by the documentary research and web research that they provide RSS services well. As a result of that, the common feature of them is to provide RSS feeds for all lists of references from external resources besides the RSS services for internal information.
After conducting the advanced cases overseas, 9 libraries out of 11 libraries which are providing RSS services out of total 201 university libraries in the country had been interviewed by phone and e-mail for researching on the RSS services status of domestic libraries in university. As a result, they provide RSS services for announcement, new arrival books and the search results of reference. However, it is shown that the RSS services of domestic libraries of university are partially provided for the information internally created.
Compared between overseas cases and domestic status, domestic university libraries do not have specified RSS services in the overseas advanced cases such as library subscription database, the guide to electronic journals with RSS feeds and the guide to RSS services of external resource. However, domestic university libraries have introduced and provided RSS services from the flow of the web trends or the communication technology.
The providers of RSS services have increased and RSS feeds readers also tend to increase currently. The librarians and users have a little recognition of RSS services in the domestic university libraries yet, and RSS services are limited to the rough part. In the future, the university libraries would be able to more effectively support users for the research and learning by enhancing RSS services.
