In this thesis, I would like to present the optimal scheme for developing high-precision hybrid geoid model which will be used as a accurate vertical datum in Korea. The hybrid geoid model should be determined by fitting the gravimetric geoid to the geometric geoid from GPS/Levelling data which were presented the local vertical level. To develop the hybrid geoid model, the accurate gravimetric geoid will be determined firstly. Thus, it is necessary to improve the accuracy of gravimetric geoid in order to development the high-precision hybrid geoid model. For this, I determined the parts of frequency of gravimetric geoid using all available data and tried to evaluate an optimal scheme to improve the accuracy of gravimetric geoid model in Korea.
Through finding the optimal scheme for determining the each part of gravimetric geoid, the most accurate gravimetric geoid model in Korea will be developed when the EIGEN-CG03C model, 4-band spherical FFT (fast fourier transformation) and RTM (residual terrain method) reduction methods were used for determining the long, middle and short-frequency part of gravimetric geoid respectively. The final gravimetric geoid model covers the all area around Korea: 33 ~ 39°N and 125 ~ 130°E with the grid spacing (1.4km×1.5km). A number of data compiled for gravimetric geoid, containing 6,296 points gravity data on land and ocean areas. The height data gridded by 100m×100m and the EIGEN-CG03C global geopotential model to degree 360 were used in order to determine the gravimetric geoid. The accuracy of gravimetric geoid model were evaluated by comparison with GPS/Levelling data was about -1.63m ± 0.123m.
Finally, we developed the hybrid geoid model around Korea by correcting to gravimetric geoid with the correction term. The correction term is modelled using the difference between GPS/Levelling derived geoidal heights and gravimetric geoidal heights. The stochastic model used in the calculation of correction term is the LSC (least squares collocation) technique based on second-order Markov covariance function. 503 GPS/Levelling data were used to model the correction term. The degree of LSC fitting to the final hybrid geoid model in Korea was evaluated as 0.001m ±0.054m.
Concerning the result of this study, the accurate orthometric height at any points in Korea will be easily and precisely calculated using the hybrid geoid model and GPS technique. Therefore, the hybrid geoid model could be used as a vertical datum for determining the vertical positions precisely in the various field of geo-sciences; surveying, geophysical research and engineering work etc.
