The purpose of this study is to examine the characteristics of divorced family in our society which the divorce rate is rising, and the influences for the psycho-social adaptation of relationship between adolescents and parents in the divorced family.
There are three main and key questions of this study. The followings had in detail.
Firstly, how does the general variable influence on the adaptation of adolescents in the divorced families?
Secondly, how does the relationship between adolescents and parents in the divorced families influence on the youth's social adaptation?
Thirdly, how does the relationship between adolescents and parents in the divorced families influence on the youth's psychological adaptation?
For this study, the targeted subjects are composed of some adolescents who responded that their parents got divorced, total 64 surveys among them are used for the final analysis.
The general results of this study lead to the conclusions like the followings.
First of all, among the general variables, it appeared that there is a significant difference between the grade and self-esteem around the home and the society. Specially, the home and social self-esteems of senior high school students are less than those of junior senior high school students. In the time of parents divorce, the home self-esteem is lowly appeared before the adolescents become the elementary school students. However, it appeared that gender, age, life level, school record, parenting style, family members not parents, real their parents educational degree, real their parents job, religion are not significantly related.
Second, in the relations between fathers and social adaptations, father's intimacy, rationality and home self-esteem, father's excessiveness and home self-esteem, father's unrestricted view and school esteem are highly seemed to interrelate. Yet, there's no connection between father's control and social adjustment.
Third, when divorced mother's parenting style is warm, amicable, and reasonable, the adolescents are likely to have rich home self-esteem and socio-esteem. In addition, when divorced mother's controls are tight and strict, the youth's home and social self-esteem is higher. As a result, when it comes to parenting in the divorce and broken homes, it could be concluded that adequate controls as well as much intimacy and reasonable attitudes to the adolescents are necessary through this study.
Fourth, in the relations between fathers and their adolescents' psychological adaptation of divorced families, it appeared that father's intimacy, rationality and non-restriction are relation to the adolescents' frustration. But there's no connection between father's control, overprotection and psychological adjustment.
Finally, in the relations between mothers and their adolescents' psychological adaptation of divorced families, mother's intimacy, rationality, control, unrestricted view and psychological adjustment are not fully related.
This study indicates that the relationships between divorced parents and their adolescents have important influences on the psycho-social adaptation in adolescence. Accordingly, parenting style, which shows consistent intimacy and rationality to their adolescents is necessarily essential.
