태권도복의 변천과정과 의미고찰 = (An)Inquiry into the Meaning of the Change and the Process of Taekwondo Uniform

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This research is about the transition of Tae kwon do uniform and finding the meaning of the uniform and its belt. The main purpose of this research is to offer basic information which is needed development of Tae kwon do.
There is not enough information sothe result came out from who trained the origin of military arts with their training garb.
First, In Goguryeo - Joeuisunin, In Silla Hwalangdo, In Baekje Gimainsang. These are shown similar clothing pattern with Tae kwon do uniform in nowadays.
Second, In Goguryeo , Yong ho gun's uniform kept similar pattern to Samguksidae( the period of the Three States) soldiers' uniform. They wore it most of the time like everyday dress.
Third, In the Joseon Dynasty period, the military uniform called Yungbok. Its pattern seemed not different with the peculiar clothing pattern, but there is a point of little difference of activity convenience.
Fourth, After liberation, Tae kwon do uniform has taken the same pattern with Japanese`. But Moo duk kwan`s training uniform shows that the same ornament and the style as Samguksi dae.
Fifth, the Korean Tae kwon do association has appointed an official uniform since the present uniform has been generalized. Its pattern has difference with the origin ornament style. But the uniforms of upper garment collar and length has taken origin pattern. It seems to have a relation to peculiar military uniform.
Sixth, the reason is why Tae kwon do uniform has white color is that Korean respect nature harmony and purity. White color means cleanness and innocence without any selfish desire. It also showed a graceful beauty at the same time.
White color's inner meaning contains that make away with artificiality and joining with nature of our race. But another side shows that Korean` loneliness and sentimentality. White clothing is our both aesthetical sense and nature harmony sense.
Seventh, Tae kwon do uniform has ruled five belts of color. Those are white, yellow, blue, red and black. But there is little difference in each place. The belts have inherited based on our traditional emotion and the cosmic dual force and the five elements with natural features and economical, cultural conditions. Like this Tae kwon do uniform and its belt have related to natural harmony.
Which means to take care of the body and the mind neatly alsotake a serious view with morality to protecting mind and body.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 태권도 도복의 변천과정과 도복과 띠의 의미를 찾아 태권도 발전에 필요한 기초 자료를 제공하기 위한 목적으로 연구하였다.
태권도복의 선행연구가 미흡하고 자료가 부족한 관계로 태권도의 근원이 되는 무술을 수련하던 집단의 수련 의복을 중심으로 연구를 한 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다.
첫째, 고구려 조의선인, 신라의 화랑도, 백제의 기마인상의 의복형태 등이 지금의 태권도복 형태와 유사한 형식을 취하고 있었다.
둘째, 고구려시대에는 용호군의 복장이 삼국시대의 무사복 형태를 유지하며 전시 및 평시에도 항상 착용하였으며 일상복의 구별을 두지 않은 것으로 보인다.
셋째, 조선시대의 무사복은 융복이라 불리며, 그 형태는 고유의 의복형식과 다르지 않은 것으로 보이며 단지 활동성의 편의가 조금 다른 것으로 보인다.
넷째, 해방 후의 태권도복은 일본 도복 형태와 같은 전개형의 형식을 취하나 무덕관의 수련복과 같이 삼국시대의 의복 형태인 직령 교임식 형식을 취하고 있어 삼국시대의 고유 의복 형태를 취한 것으로 보인다.
다섯째, 대한 태권도 협회의 공인 도복 지정으로 현재의 도복이 일반화 되었으며 형태는 관두형으로 고유 의복 형태와는 차이가 있으나, 도복 상의 깃의 형태나 상의 길이는 고유 형식을 채택하고 있어 고유의 무사복과 연관성이 깊다고 보여 진다.
여섯째, 태권도 도복이 흰 것은 곧 본래 밝음을 숭상하던 우리민족의 자연 친화 사상과 아주 밀접한 관계가 있다. 백색은 깨끗하고 사욕에 물들지 않고 결백하고 순결한 마음을 나타내고 동시에 화사한 아름다움을 표현하려는 기질이 있기 때문이다. 그 속에 인공을 배제하고 자연과 융합하려는 우리민족의 소박함이 담겨져 있고 한편으로는 쓸쓸하고 감상적인 면도 맛 볼 수 있다. 백의는 바로 우리민족의 미의식임과 동시해 소박한 자연 친화적 사상에 의한다고 하겠다.
일곱째, 태권도복의 띠는 흰색, 노랑, 파랑, 빨강, 검정 등의 5색으로 규정하고 있으나 각 도장에서는 조금씩 다르게 착용하기도 한다. 띠에는 우리의 전통적 정서와 음양오행 사상체계를 바탕으로 하여 자연사상에 유추하여 우리의 풍토와 기후 경제적 문화적 여건에 맞게 계승된 것이라고 볼 수 있다.
이상과 같이 태권도복과 띠는 자연에의 동화사상에서 비롯된 것이며, 도복과 띠가 의미하는 철학성은 심신을 청결히 간수하며, 심신을 갈고 닦는 도의로서 중시하는데 있는 것이다.
