Recently, the creative image expressed in the culture and tourism festival has been changed into a method to express specific message and story through means of planning based on a detailed and sophisticate strategy.
However, in spite of such changes according to the time, the relevant research activities are lingering merely over the investigations about the image of the festival and the participants’ behaviors, being remained in the same level as ever.
The propose of this study is to find a method of constructing storytelling factors of the festival organizers in order to promote the economic, socio-cultural effect of the festival in the reality of high importance of the outstanding festival planning.
In this study, the relationships between storytelling factors, and the festival planning and the effect thereof were verified, and appropriateness and hypothesis of the research model developed from the theoretical study, which tells their relationships, were examined.
The range of time in order to accomplish the purpose of this research is 2007, when questionnaire research was conducted.
And, the spatial range for the research activities was limited to our country, and, as for the range of the subjects in this research, it was limited to the specialists in the area of planning festivals in order to make measurements for storytelling and planning factors, as well as for effect of culture and tourism festival easy.
And, the range of contents was limited to the researches about the influence of storytelling factors on the culture and tourism festival planning, and the effect thereof.
Results from empirical analysis revealed the followings:
First, it was proved by the reliability and validity validation that the measured variables elicited by specialists and literature research on storytelling factors that may be used in planning of culture and tourism festival, and on festival planning as well as the effect thereof, were all adequate. Hence, this suggests that the measured variables used in this research can be utilized as the measured variables for the further research works.
Second, author could have examined eight latent variables, that is, such storytelling factors as locality, specialty, world-wide vision, design, and emotional expression, as well as the festival planning, and also the measured variables that had most important influence on measuring both economic and socio-cultural effects thereof. This was confirmed by means of Standardized Regression Weights using AMOS program.
Results from the confirmation revealed that the storytelling factor having the highest impact relationship in planning of culture and tourism festival was emotional express, followed by locality and design. This result suggests that the festival planning by adding such storytelling factors as emotional expression and locality to it will likely promote economic and socio-cultural effects of the festival.
Third, results from investigation indicated that the culture and tourism festival planning had significant influence on economic and socio-cultural effect of the festival.
This suggests that economic and socio-cultural effects of the festival can be promoted up to a higher level through means of the planning of culture and tourism festival, which is to cover such topics as conformity of theme, originality of the festival, merchantability of the festival, and festival program. In other words, it means that the expertise of specialists in planning a festival would take an influential role in promoting the effect of the festival.
Fourth, it was investigated that specialists in festival planning regard the festival program and the merchantability of the festival as the most important factors in planning culture and tourism festival. And that conformity of theme and originality of festival also indicated a higher standardized regression weight. These results suggest that the festival has to be planned by a comprehensive manner having considered all related factors, rather than by a monotonous way of planning that has concentrated only on a specific factor of the festival, and also that the four factors presented in this research could be all utilized as the factors that should be considered important in festival planning.
Fifth, results from analysis of relationship between storytelling factors and economic effect of the festival revealed that there were significant impact relationships therein.
To be more specific, the results from regression analysis in order for relationship validation between storytelling factors and economic effect of the festival indicated that locality had the highest impact relationship with the relative importance, followed by world-wide vision that showed a significant level. This result suggests that the stronger locality involve with the festival planning, the higher economic effect is to be promoted.
Sixth, the results from analysis of relationship between storytelling factors and socio-cultural effects of the festival indicated that there were significant impact relationships between them. To be more specific, the results from regression analysis in order for relationship validation between storytelling factors and socio-cultural effects of the festival revealed that world-wide vision had the highest impact relationship with the relative importance, followed by emotional expression that exhibited a significant level. This result proves that socio-cultural effects can be promoted through means of a proper festival planning with enforcement of world-wide vision and emotional expression.
Based on the results of analysis, author has presented the method of festival planning through storytelling factors, and of promoting the festival effect, also its practical implications as follows:
