다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract) kakao i 다국어 번역

The purpose of this study is to examine the effects and understanding of early English education for 22 children of 7 years old through exposure to English at child nursery in Jollanamdo. The study aims to describe the parents' and children's understanding in early English Education, the effects of English instruction, and the relationship between mother tongue and English development.
The study subjects were classified into three groups: Group A contained 4 who had learned English below 6 months, Group B contained 4 who had learned it from 6 to 11 months and Group C contained 14 who had learned it over 12 months. Each group was observed to find out the development of English skills: listening, speaking, and reading. The research was conducted from August, 2006 through October, 2007.
Regression analysis was used to conclude whether second language learning was influential on the mother tongue development of young children.
The results of the experiments are as follows:
First, the children with a longer English instruction period gained more English skills such as speaking, listening, and reading than those with a shorter instruction period.
Second, English speaking, listening, and reading development positively influenced the mother language development in Group C, while Group A`s mother tongue was influenced by English listening skill development and Group B wasn't.
In conclusion, it can be said that a second language acquisition by preschool children is not a learning process which requires conscious efforts but it was rather a natural acquisition process. Therefore, we should provide an environment in which preschool children are naturally exposed to English.
