The specific objective of the research is as follows. The research examines social-demographic characteristic of ADHD children and their mothers, its relation to the level of stress. Based on the relation between the social support for mothers and the upbringing stress, the benefit of the social support is analyzed. Also, the research provides specific suggestions to exert beneficial influence on ADHD children, and to assist alleviating mother’s stress. Mothers with ADHD children get stressed by their children, other family members, and the society.
The research measures the level of the stress coming from the upbringing, and by understanding the level of social support for the mothers, the research strives to provide specific methods to affect ADHD children in a positive way. Also, the research explores potential social supports to relieve the mothers of the upbringing stress. The research showed that as the low-ranking elements of the social support for the mothers increased, the level of upbringing stress went down. Thus, it is important to ensure the quality and quantity of information on the upbringing, and provide them in a timely manner.
This requires professional information programs managed by the social institutes.
Parents’ meetings and self-development programs provide venues for mutual emotional support, self-evaluation, and to acquire information by exchanging experiences. Such meetings help mothers to adapt to the situation better and to minimize adverse effect.
It is very important to examine the relation between social support - which could be the most valuable support in the upbringing - and the stress from the upbringing in a sense that the research provides data to induce practical methods to adopt external intervention to alleviate difficulties of the mothers. In regard to social support, it is necessary to improve the quality and quantity of the services including diagnosis, treatment of the disorder, and protection of children. Especially, developing information system that provides information on the disorder detection and upbringing plan will substantially decrease the psychological, physical, and material consumption and waste on the mothers’ side.
In addition, it is critical to develop and vitalize programs for parents’education who are often alienated from the society for social and economic reasons. It is still pervasive that the mothers are solely responsible for the upbringing of the children with the disorder.
However, the responsibility of taking care of ADHD children falls on both mothers and fathers, and in order to encourage constructive family life, it is critical to establish concrete plans to improve the social support system.
