This study attempted to analyze the influences of family resilience of families who had children with atopic dermatitis on family adjustment by applying the concept of family resilience based on a strengths perspective. For this purpose, the influences of the characteristics of sociology of population in families who had children with atopic dermatitis, family stress, and family resilience on family adjustment were examined and the study was to seek the importance of family resilience and practical intervention plans for the family adjustment of families who had children with atopic dermatitis.
This study was conducted a survey with families who visited university hospitals and general hospitals for treatment in Ulsan and Gyeongbuk areas and participated in the programs for families who had children with atopic dermatitis at local public health centers and the total number of 123 documents were used for final analysis.
The results of the study are following.
Firstly, the more family stress was observed, the younger children or the older guardians were in families who had children with atopic dermatitis and the less levels of family adjustment were observed, the higher family stress levels were after conducting a relationship analysis and a path analysis.
Secondly, as a result of conducting a path analysis to understand the influences on the family resilience of families who had children with atopic dermatitis and the family adjustment, the more social status was, the more family adjustment was observed.
Thirdly, in order to examine the decrease the additional influences of the stress in families who had children with atopic dermatitis on family adjustment as a subordinate factor of family resilience, a path analysis was conducted, applying interaction variables such as family stress * family endurance, family stress * family communication, family stress * family responses, and family stress*social support. As a result, family endurance, family response, social support was observed to reduce family stress directly and indirectly. Therefore, the controlling effects of family resilience on family stress were proved.
Fourthly, as a result of conducting a path analysis of three conditions to be parameters such as the influences of stress on family adjustment, the influences of family stress on subordinate factors, the family resilient subordinate factors on family adjustment in order to understand additional influences of the stress in families who had children with atopic dermatitis on family adjustment, the meditative effects of social support was proved.
Based on the results from the study, the conclusions are following.
Firstly, as the adjustment for the stress in families who had children with atopic dermatitis was not much influenced by family resilience, the controlling effects of resilience were proved. Therefore, in order to help the family adjustment for family stress, intervention to improve the resilience will be helpful.
Secondly, the intervention of social work to reinforce family resilience is required to improve the levels of adjustment in families who had children with atopic dermatitis. As seen in this study, each subordinate factor of family resilience works as a major effect to influence family adjustment and as controlling variables and meditative variables which control the influences of family stress on family adjustment. Especially, the programs which improve family resilient subordinate factors should be developed and revitalized to make families under the stressful situation in which families had children with atopic dermatitis adjust and maintain a healthy life.
Lastly, children and family factors to lead the differences in the average of measurement variables among the factors of the sociology of population factors were the ages of children and those of guardians and etc. The results showed that the sociology of population factors which family had could work as variables in family stress, family adjustment, and family resilience. Therefore, individual interventions which consider fundamental characteristics of the sociology of population which family has are needed for practicing social welfare.
