The purpose of this study is to know an effect on an internal control and self-esteem after applying the realistic therapy to women suffering from domestic violence who visit the Domestic Problem Counselling Office. The following questions are made and verified.
First, is the internal control of experimental group which experienced in the group counselling program for the realistic therapy improved?
Second, is the self-esteem of experimental group which experienced in the group counselling program for the realistic therapy improved?
In order to verify these questions, constituted the experimental group with women suffering from domestic violence who visit Domestic Problem Counselling Office, constituted the control group with a general people and conducted pre-test and post-test for the experimental and control group. Group counselling program for the realistic therapy was conducted 2 hours, one time a week and total 8 times. The realistic therapy was not conducted to the control group and conducted post-test at the same time of the experimental group.
For analysis tools, inter-external control scale made by Rotter(1966) and Coopersmith's self-esteem inventory adapted by Lee, Sun Kyung were used . For data processing, SPSS statistic program was utilized for producing the statistic value and t-test was conducted for verification of difference in average value about an examination of internal control and self-esteem.
The results of this study are as followings.
First, the internal control of the experimental group which experienced group counselling program for the realistic therapy increase by meaningful level.
Second, the self-esteem of the experimental group which experienced group counselling program for the realistic therapy statistically increase by meaningful level.
Third, people in the experimental group which experienced group counselling program for the realistic therapy have understand of self-desire, controllable and responsible choice, improvement in ability of conflict solving, the positive thought and broad mind for accepting different things. There are a lot of statements that they get a lot of things as a result of satisfaction with a program
With above results, the suggested questions for the study is partly meaningful through group counselling program for the realistic therapy. It seems that the results in self-assessment of the group members positively support this study. Accordingly, group counseling program for the realistic therapy is effective for increasing self-control and self-esteem of women suffering from domestic violence.
