This study is to illustrate the situations of the internet use and the addiction of internet for hearing impaired students. The results of the study is as follows.
First, most handicapped students use internet in their rooms and half of their parents don't use internet, they use internet 1~3 times a week in average. Most students responded that using internet doesn't influence their studying, and they didn't care about what their parents think about their internet use. They used internet mostly for playing games.
Second, overall most users were average users but low potential internet addict group and high potential internet addict group were higher compared to the unhandicapped. There wer more male students than female students in the highly dangerous users and there were more high school students compared to middle school students. We can analyze that male middle school students become interested in internet and starts to get addicted to it.
Most users with high potential to become a internet addict used computers in their own rooms. Most parent's reaction toward their internet use is either scolding them or preventing them from any internet access. It is natural for parents to act this way. Game playing was the most frequently used internet activity for potential internet addict group. Getting addicted to game playing meant getting addicted to internet.
To prevent students from internet addiction parents must limit the time of internet use from the start. But parents must lead their kids in to other activities like sports to gradually reduce the time used in internet.
Estrangement from family, lack of parent support, lack of love, excessive caring, and etc are the factors that increase internet addiction. Parents must put lots of effort to improve their family relationship, so that students will have more time to talk about their difficulties and stress with their family.
