The purpose of this study was to analysis of the problem and teacher's needs of using ICT in the school for physical and multiple disabilities.
Specific objectives were as follows.
First, to assess current status of education using ICT for schools for the physical & multiple disabilities (SPMD).
Second, to assess problems of education using ICT.
Third, to assess teachers' needs for improvement for education using ICT.
A questionnaire was administered to 74 teachers employed by SPMD in Daegu and Gyeongsangbuk-do. It consisted of items for domains of sociodemographic status of teachers, status of education using ICT and educational environments, perceived problems of education using ICT by the teachers, and needs for improvement for education using ICT.
The results of this study were as follows;
First, hardware environment such as equipments for education was relatively good and support of principals for education for ICT was high.
However, computer aid equipments were not sufficient and ability of students to utilize education for ICT was lacking. Proportion of hours comprising education using ICT were not so much relative to the whole educational ones. Most of materials for education using ICT were commercially developed in lower grades while most of higher graders were utilizing internet as well as hand-made materials.
Second, computer aids for students were lacking in utilizing education for ICT. Teachers do not have sufficient time to develop teaching materials and educational materials utilizing ICT were attached too much importance to subjects related to computer.
Finally, third, teachers want to have standard materials for education using ICT developed by the Ministry of Education suitable for SPMD and to have opportunities for learning how to develop educational materials. They preferred to have money for securing computer aids as an administrative support to facilitate utilization of education for ICT.
Based on the results, suggestions were as follows.
First, the results cannot be generalized due to convenience sampling and small sampling size. They should be replicated using the representative sampling of nationwide teachers.
Second, more surveys and studies are needed to assess status of computer aids used by students of the physical & multiple disabilities and diffusion of computer aids among students as well as teachers.
Third, more studies are needed about learning programs for education for ICT such as development tools of educational materials, specifics on how to develop, and level of lecture.
