The purpose of this study was to investigate effects of 12 weeks falls prevention exercise on functional fitness in elderly. A total of 45 healthy old adults (men=15, women=30) who were between 65 to 69 years (n=15), between 70 to 74 year (n=15) and over 75 years (n=15) of age participated in this study. Exercise were involved in the period of 12 week complex physical training for around 50 minutes a day, three times per week which were composed in warm-up, stretching, elastic band, balance, proprioceptive neuromuscular training and cool-down. We measured subjects' physical activity levels by short physical performance battery(SPPB), timed up & go(TUG) test, one leg standing with closed eyes and maximal step length (MSL) test. Collected data were statically analyzed by SPSS PC win 11.0/PC for by wilcoxon signed ranked test and kruskal-wallis test. Alpha was set at .05.
The results were as follows;
First, there were statically significant differences in SPPB (P<0.01>, TUG test (P<0.01), One leg standing with closed eyes(P<0.01) and MSL test (P<0.01) between pre and post test.
Second, there were statically significant differences in SPPB (P<0.01>, TUG test (P<0.01), One leg standing with closed eyes(P<0.01) and MSL test (P<0.01) between pre and post test in men. There were statically significant differences in SPPB (P<0.01>, TUG test (P<0.01), One leg standing with closed eyes(P<0.01) and MSL test (P<0.01) between pre and post test in women.
Third, there were statically significant differences in SPPB (P<0.01>, TUG test (P<0.01), One leg standing with closed eyes(P<0.01) and MSL test (P<0.01) between pre and post test in 65~69 years old group. There were statically significant differences in SPPB (P<0.01>, TUG test (P<0.01), One leg standing with closed eyes(P<0.01) and MSL test (P<0.01) between pre and post test in 70~74 years old group. There were statically significant differences in SPPB (P<0.01>, TUG test (P<0.01), One leg standing with closed eyes(P<0.01) and MSL test (P<0.01) between pre and post test in over 75 years old group.
Forth, among 65~69 years old, 70~74 years old group and over 75 years old group, there were statically significant differences in One leg standing with closed eyes (P<0.05).
