The present study examined the effects of self‐esteem, communication with parents and relationship with schoolmates on students’ school adjustment. The subjects were 617 students from 3 middle schools and 3 high schools in Gyeonggi-do.
Data were analyzed with SPSS 12.0 as follows. First, frequency analysis was used to examine the subjects’ general characteristics. Second, two-way ANOVA was conducted to determine difference in adolescents’ school adjustment according to gender and school level. Third, Pearson’s correlation analysis was used examine to see the correlations of self‐esteem, communication with parents and relationship with schoolmates with adolescents’ school adjustment. Fourth, multiple regression analysis was used to examine the effects of self‐esteem, communication with parents and relationship with schoolmates on adolescents’ school adjustment. The results of this study were as follows.
First, there were no significant differences in adolescents’ school adjustment according to sex. But there were significant differences in adolescents’ school adjustment according to school level. And there was an interaction effect on school adjustment according to sex and school level.
Second, adolescents'' self‐esteem, communication with parents and relationship with schoolmates were found to be positively correlated with school adjustment.
Third, adolescents'' self‐esteem, communication with parents and relationship with schoolmates explained 33% of variances in school adjustment.
