The purpose of this study is to prove the validity and reliability of Death Attitude Profile-Revised in Korean adults aged between 60 and 79 years old.
    The results are as follows:
    1. Five factors (dimensions) were identified and explained 65.620% of the total variance. The factors were Approach Acceptance, Escape Acceptance, Neutral Acceptance, Fear of Death, Avoidance of Death.
    2. The reliability of Cronbach's alpha for each factor was as follows: .903 for Approach Acceptance, .819 for Escape Acceptance, .801 for Neutral Acceptance, .850 for Fear of Death, .817 for Avoidance of Death.
    3. There was a significantly positive correlation between Approach Acceptance and Escape Acceptance while there was a significantly negative correlation between Approach Acceptance and Neutral Acceptance. There was a significantly negative correlation between Death Acceptance and Fear of Death. Also, there was a significantly positive correlation between Fear of Death and Avoidance of Death. Based on the factor analysis results, the five dimensions of death attitudes are relatively independent.
    4. The death attitude ratings of the older adults were subjected to a 2 (age group) × 2 (sex) analysis of variance. The main effects of sex was significant in Approach Acceptance, Escape Acceptance, and Fear of Death. Also, the main effects of age was significant in Escape Acceptance and Neutral Acceptance. Analysis of variance showed that men were less afraid of death and more accepting of death as a reality compared with women. Those in their seventies were more accepting of life after death and of death as an escape from life compared to those in their sixties.
    5. To prove the criterion-related validity, this study compared the correlations of the death attitude, trait - anxiety, and self esteem. Anxiety was positively related to Approach Acceptance and Escape Acceptance for males in their sixties. Also, it was related to Escape Acceptance for females in their sixties and females in their seventies. It was positively related to Fear of Death and Avoidance of Death for males in their sixties. Self esteem was positively related to Neutral Acceptance and negatively related to Fear of Death for males in their sixties. Also, it was related to Escape Acceptance for females in their sixties and males in their seventies.
In conclusion, it can be said that the Death Attitude Profile-Revised has good reliability, high construct validity and high criterion-related validity.
