한국 재즈댄스의 전개 과정에 관한 연구 = (A) study of the historical development of jazz dance in Korea

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 한국의 재즈댄스 역사는 외국의 재즈댄스 역사에 비해 기간이 짧지만 앞으로 재즈댄스 교육이 점점 더 활성화되어 ‘대중무용’의 한 장르로서 인정받고 있다. 이에 재즈댄스의 활동을 알아볼 필요성을 인식하고 한국에서 재즈댄스의 도입과정, 단체의 설립, 공연활동, 대학의 정규과목 및 학원의 채택 등에 초점을 맞추어 한국에서 재즈댄스가 어떻게 보급, 전개 되었는지를 역사적으로 검토하였다.
그 결과 첫째, 한국에서의 재즈댄스는 1980년대 전미례에 의해 최초로 도입되었다. 전미례가 한국에 재즈댄스를 도입할 당시 저급문화라는 인식의 냉소냉담한 반응속에서 굴하지 않고 재즈댄스에 대한 확신과 열정으로 도입시켰다.
둘째, 1986년 전미례에 의해 '전미례 재즈무용단'의 설립, 1996년 우현영에 의한 '포즈댄스 시어터'의 설립, 그리고 2000년 박명수의 '수 댄스 컴퍼니' 설립을 통한 공연활동으로 한국의 재즈댄스가 보급화 되었다.
셋째, 오늘날 한국의 재즈댄스는 대중들의 인기로 인해 전국에 전문적인 학원 2000여개가 등장하였다. 이에 1997년 우석대학교에서 전문적인 교육의 필요성을 인식하고 정규과목으로의 채택한 것을 토대로 전국의 대부분의 대학에서 재즈댄스 전공을 채택하여 실시하고 있다.
이러한 점들을 고려해 볼 때 현재 한국에서의 재즈댄스는 생활 속에서 누구나 즐기는 문화예술로 전개되고 있다. 이처럼 오늘날 한국에서의 재즈댄스는 순수 예술무용의 전문화된 춤의 개념을 갖는 동시에 대중성을 띄고 있는 우리시대의 우리 춤이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Although Jazz Dance has been for the short period of time in Korea, it has developed as an important genre in our popular culture. Jazz Dance as a formal and informal education also has developed widely along the period and it has been gaining attention as a notable sector in the Korean dance culture. This Study is to review the historical and methodological development and popularization of Jazz Dance. Many formal educational institutes and dance groups have already adopted Jazz Dance as courses of Study and performances for Study and this Study also looks into the stages of Jazz Dance development in Korea.
First, Jazz Dance in Korea was first introduced through Ms. Chun Mi-rae in the 1980s. Although there was a widely spread opinion that it was not suitable as a formal culture, the dance was taken enthusiastically at a rapid pace.
Second, the ‘J.M.R. Jazz Dance’ was established and began performances in 1986. POZ Dance Theatre was established in 1996 and ‘Soo Dance Company’ was founded to perform Jazz Dance expected to contribute to the recognition of the dance to the general public in 2000.
Third, today Jazz Dance gains as much popularity as over 2,000 institutes and organizations now instruct Jazz Dance to the professional and general dance community. In 1997, Woosuk University was the first to adopt and provide a curriculum for the dance and today most of the well recognized Universities have established Jazz Dance as a major. So, the dance has contributed to the recognition of the dance to the general public.
Today, Jazz Dance is recognized as a formal genre in Korean performing arts which are representing both professionalism and popularity in contemporary dance culture.
