Leisure tourism marketing begins with understanding silver tourist' needs.
However, understanding silver tourist' need should be expressed by specific utility values rather than simple preference order for the purpose of developing tourism marketing strategies.
This study aims at identifying silver tourist's stated preference of destination attributes by using the conjoint analysis. In addition, this study is purposed to define relationship between attitude and preference, and to suggest implications to silver tourism marketing strategies.
Self-administered questionnaires were delivered to the convenient sample which was extracted from urban leisure facilities. 318 responses are available for the empirical analysis. Based on the Fodness' multi item scale(1994), four attitude segments such as keep-fit pursuit type, leisure practical pursuit types, lifetime education pursuit type and personal relationship pursuit type were extracted and described demographic variables.
14 silver destination attributes were derived from the common attributes suggested in the previous researches. Three attributes including quality of accommodation, diverse recreation facilities and accessibility were selected out of 14 attributes for the conjoint analysis.
It was hypothesized that there is a significant differences in stated preferences to diverse profiles made of three attributes, depending on the attitude segments and demographic segments. In addition, benefit segments which were segmented by the stated preferences were hypothesized to show significant differences in demographic variables.
It was found that stated preferences to diverse profiles among the attitude segments was significantly different only in such attributes as quality of accommodation and accessibility. In addition, stated preferences to diverse profiles made of three attributes showed significant differences in such demographic variables as education, average length of stay, sex and family life cycle. Finally, benefit segments extracted from the stated preferences to diverse profile showed significant differences in such demographic variables as education, average length of stay, sex and family life cycle.
This results make it possible to identify the function of preference to destination attributes in the silver destination choice decision. It also embodies the relationship between silver tourist's attitude and silver destination attributes.
The results of this study has a restriction to be generalized due to the limited number of attributes to be used for the conjoint analysis.
Despite the restriction, this study has some findings which would suggest marketing implications.
