As standard of living of Korean is becoming high, donating culture is developed and matured. Thus, non-profit organization's promotion of donation plays a more important role in our society. In particular, donation of an individual is increasing recently and the organization recognizes the necessity to develop the strategy of donate creation toward an individual. As such, there is an increasing amount of researches being conducted today that focus on Motivations and Factors for donation. However, existing researches have not been able to explain the development of relationship between a donator and a non-profit organization. Also the moderate effect of reciprocity had not been explained.
This study examines the impact of satisfaction of Prior Experience on Donate Behavior. Also, in this study, Relationship Quality is set up as a mediating factor and Reciprocity is set up as a moderating factor. The subjects of this study were women and men over 20 years of age living in the Seoul and Kyunggi areas and they answered about the school they graduated. Of all the questionnaires collected, 249 were included in the analysis which was performed using SPSS 12.0 and AMOS 4.0. The results of the analysis came out to be within the acceptable range of the application model.
Our main findings are as follows:
First, the satisfaction of Prior Experience has a significant impact on Relationship Quality. In other words, the more a customer feels the Experience Satisfaction from what a non-profit organization offer, the more a customer will trust and involve in the organization.
Second, the Relation Quality between a customer and a non-profit organization has a significant impact on Donate Intention and Donate Loyalty. Essentially, the more a customer trust and involve in his or her related non-profit organization, the more a customer will donate to the organization.
Lastly, the moderating factor of Reciprocity affects between the satisfaction of Prior Experience and the Relationship Quality. In other words, even though a donator dissatisfied with a organization's offer that he or she experienced, the high level of reciprocity by donating can increase donator's trust and involvement in the non-profit organization.
This study contributes the following to future research:
First, the study presents a theoretical framework regarding various concepts of Donate Behavior. In particular, the study presents a model in which the Relationship Quality (as a mediator) that impacts on between Prior Experience Satisfaction and Donate Intention and Loyalty.
Second, the study provides a theoretical foundation for research in Reciprocity. Specifically, the study investigates Reciprocity (as a moderator) which is still a rudimentary concept in the non-profit field.
This study contributes the following to business practices:
First, the study proves that the Relationship between a donator and a non-profit organization plays an important role in increasing donation. Consequently, non-profit marketers should offer experiences that fit well with consumer's demands.
Second, this study proves that the more reciprocity donators feel by donation, the more donation will be gathered. This study will likely be very insightful for non-profit organizations in that making a donator feels psychological benefit is the value of enhancing their relationship even though when the customer dissatisfied with his or her prior experience.
This study has the following limitations:
First, in this study, the survey questionnaire was about the school which was specifically designed to measure customer's educated experience. Therefore, it would be a limitation to adapt to the other non-profit organizations beside education organizations. Consequently, future research should use a general experience scale that can fit to other non-profit organizations because different services offer different attributes of customer experience.
Second, the study deals only with donators' reciprocity therefore sample size was small to measure a moderator, however, the moderating role was affective in this study. In actuality, the bigger the sample size, the more effective result can be measured. Consequently, future research should consider bigger sample size of the donator.
