Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of a music therapy on postpartum blue and maternal attachment of puerperal women.
Method: The research design was a non equivalent control group non- synchronized quasi-experimental design. The data were collected from June 4 to September 8, 2007 at one postpartum care center located in D city. The participants were puerperal women who agreed to participate in this study by convenience sampling of total 60 puerperal women(30 experimental group, 30 control group). After measuring postpartum blue and maternal attachment for two groups, music therapy was provided to experimental group over 40 minutes, once a day, and for 8 days. Then, postpartum blue and maternal attachment of experimental and control group were measured on the 8th day. The data were analyzed by ?2 test or Fisher's exact test, independent t-test using SPSS win 12.0 Program.
Results: The first hypothesis that "the degree of postpartum blue of experimental group participated in music therapy would be lower than that of control group." was accepted(t=4.350, p= .000). The second hypothesis that "the degree of maternal attachment of experimental group participated in music therapy would be higher than that of control group." was accepted(t=4.828, p= .000).
Conclusion: These findings indicate that music therapy has positive influences on decreasing postpartum blue and increasing maternal attachment of puerperal women.
