(Abstract)
The purpose of this study is finding the types of the leisure activities and the social supports which affect depression of middle ages and old ages positively. to achieve this purpose, practical analysis were performed for 313 of middle ages and 275 of old ages who reside in Daegu city and Gyeongbuk province.
The t-test, ANOVA, multiple regression analysis, stepwise regression analysis were performed using SPSS ver. 10.0.
The results of the study can be summarized as follows:
For middle ages,
First, there is a difference in the leisure activities as the populational sociological characteristics varies.
Second, analysis results of the differences in the types of the social supports of middle ages using the populational sociological variables shows that there is no difference in all the social supports for middle ages.
Third, among the effect of the leisure activities on depression, the viewing, the social activities and the sports activities reduced depression hence these activities affect depression positively.
Forth, the regression analysis to find subordinate variables which affect depression positively shows that all subordinate variables of the social supports have no effect on depression of middle ages.
Fifth, the hierarchical regression analysis to find the amount of effectiveness of the leisure activities and the social supports of middle ages on depression shows that among the leisure activities, the viewing and the social activities, the sports activities are the factors of decreasing depression of middle ages. additional analysis which includes variables for subordinate factors of the social supports also shows that the social viewing impressions activities and the sports activities affect depression positively.
For old ages,
First, the populational sociological variables analysis results of the leisure activities of old ages shows that there are differences in the leisure activities.
Second, the analysis results of the differences in the types of the social supports of old ages using the populational sociological variables shows that the subordinate factors of the social supports which affect depression of old ages positively are the appraisement support and the emotional support.
Third, The regression analysis to find the leisure activities which affects depression of old ages positively shows that the sports activities and the viewing impressions activities affects depression positively.
Indoor amusements which are static and mainly done in the house are found to be the depression increasing leisure activities as the result shows that the inactiveness is the increasing factor of depression of old ages.
Forth, the regression analysis to find the subordinate factor variables which affect depression positively shows that the appraisement support and the emotional support affect depression positively. on the contrary, it was found that the informational support is the factor that increases depression.
Fifth, the hierarchical regression analysis to find the amount of effectiveness of the leisure activities and the social support of old ages on depression shows that among the leisure activities, the viewing impressions activities, the sports activities are the factors of decreasing depression of old ages.
The leisure activities which affect the depression negatively were found to be the indoor amusements and the inactiveness. additional analysis which includes subordinate factor variables of the social support shows that the emotional support which is the most significant factor, the social activities, the viewing impressions activities affect depression positively in the order named.
Integration of the analysis results of middle ages and old ages suggests that not only aspects of economic status, but also aspects of physical well being should be considered in the old aged life design. for positive way of life, it is necessary to interest in leisure activities and deliberate on which types of leisure activities affect middle ages and old ages depression positively. also, for successful old age life, preliminary socialization of the leisure activities which should be prepared in one's early days is necessary and these preparation will have great effect on the sound leisure activities of old ages.
The leisure activities has an effect of relaxation and recovering the will to live, and give an opportunity of self discovery, so that it affects the life satisfaction positively. to conclude, the importance of development and extension of various kinds of leisure programs should be emphasized based on the results of this study which suggests that the old age leisure activities and the social support affect depression positively.
