This study is the basic study for taking the BSC(Balanced Scorecard) at universities, which is adopted as strategic performance management system in corporate and public institutions.
This research is studied how to generalize the BSC which is adopted in a few universities in Korea to all universities. For the study, PI(Performance Indicators)is developed based on the survey of 200 universities. The PI is also developed on the classification of four perspectives of BSC based on the items of professionals(26)' consultation on the university evaluation items of the Korean Council for University Education and the Joongang Ilbo.
This study analyzes the differences of importance degree and achievement degree of PI and the differences of PI on the Korean Universities according to the specialization of each university such as a public or a private university, a research centered or an education centered university etc.
The goodness of fit statistics based on the reliability analysis, the validity analysis, the exploratory factor analysis and the confirmatory analysis is performed in this study.
The result of this study is summarized below.
According to the factor analysis, one common factor on the customer perspective, three common factors on the learning and growth perspective, two common factors on the internal business process perspective, and two common factors on the financial perspective are extracted. There seems to be no problems in the reliability according to the reliability analysis of extracted common factors because Chronbach's alpha coefficient shows between 0.7 and 0.9. Construct validity is verified based on the result of exploratory factor analysis, and the confirmatory factor analysis on the each viewpoint is performed. As the result of the analyses, the component items of each factor are appropriate according to the verification result of construct validity and the goodness of fit is also satisfactory according to the confirmatory factor analysis. The study also shows that the PI' items which is thought to be important in each university' color (location, the main body of foundation) are different among the universities.
As the result of goodness of fit, each PI based on the viewpoint is developed.
The contribution of this study is that every university can use the PI developed in this study when it adopt the BSC.
