With the popularization of the Internet and the advance of various Internet?]based application technologies, there is rapidly increasing interest in e?]Learning. According to survey by Korea Institute for Electronic Commerce (2007), the sales of e?]Learning service providers in 2006 are estimated to be 1,610 billion won, around 10% higher than 1,470 billion won in 2005, showing a steadily increasing trend. In addition, according to a survey on domestic e?]Learning consumers?f expenditures in 2006, the size of demand in the Korean e?]Learning market was a total of 1,613.3 billion won. As proved by these data, e?]Learning is counted as one of the most promising markets in the age of knowledge and information. However, with the expansion of the market, competition among e?]Learning providers is growing more intense.
Most of domestic researches on e?]Learning have been focused on technological aspects such as solutions and standardized platforms or differences between offline education and e?]Learning based on related literature. However, few researches have been made on the key factors of success in e?]Learning service, which has the highest potential for market growth among recently emerging service industries.
Thus, the objective of the present study is to provide implications for success in the rapidly expanding e?]Learning market by analyzing how the user characteristic and qualitative characteristic of e?]Learning systems affect the effectiveness of e?]Learning, learning performance, and behaviors after the use of the e?]Learning systems. For this purpose, we propose an e?]Learning success model and evaluate it based on theories related to information system success models and user characteristics.
First, derive factors affecting e?]Learning users?f intention to participate in cyber space and e?]Learning quality factors affecting the users. Second, evaluate the effectiveness of e?]Learning perceived by users using the user factors and qualitative factors of e?]Learning. For this, examine the effect of major variables of information system success models on users?f satisfaction with e?]Learning environment. Third, analyze the effects of usefulness perceived by e?]Learning users on their satisfaction. Fourth, analyze how the effectiveness of e?]Learning affects learners?f performance. Fifth, examine the effects of e?]Learning learners?f performance on their behaviors after the use of e?]Learning.
The results of this study on the user characteristic and qualitative characteristic of e?]Learning, the effectiveness of e?]Learning, learning performance and loyalty are summarized as follows.
First, the user characteristic of e?]Learning has a positive effect on the effectiveness of e?]Learning, and influential variables among user characteristic factors were motive for learning, relevancy and spontaneity.
Second, the qualitative characteristic of e?]Learning had an effect on perceived usefulness but did not have a positive effect on users?f satisfaction.
Third, the usefulness of e?]Learning perceived by users had a positive effect on users?f satisfaction.
Fourth, the usefulness of e?]Learning perceived by users did not have an effect on learning performance, but users?f satisfaction had a positive effect on learning performance.
Fifth, in e?]Learning, users?f learning performance had a positive effect on their intention to reuse and their word?]of?]mouth behavior.
