Discussion of the relationship between teachers and students in educational studies were conducted based on the nation that the focus of Korean education lied in students or social matters. Thus teachers were often forced to do their tasks perfectly and sometimes to sacrifice part of their lives. Therefore, this study focused on ‘the good life for teachers’ instead of their conventional life. It defined the good life for them and argued that when teachers pursued the good life by making efforts to teach students better, student life could also improve.
The good life can be achieved not by having more but by enjoying one's existence every moment. That is, people can achieve it when they devote themselves to their current activities and enjoy them. Therefore, good life for teachers can be achieved when they truly enjoy teaching and are devoted to it. If they live good life, they can feel true pleasure of life while making efforts to teach students better. That is, teaching becomes their pleasure, not an act for respect or other materialistic compensation from society.
In order to feel pleasure from teaching and learning, teachers should continuously research to teach student better. They should reflect their teaching during class and make improvements. Research, an embodiment of efforts to make the present conditions better, makes people feel that their careers are meaningful. Thus, ceaseless experiments and research to provide better education is essential for teachers to consider teaching as meaningful work. Through research, teachers can continue to develop their abilities and improve the quality of their lives by resolving problems they find while teaching students. That is, research to provide student with better class is very important for teachers to lead the good life.
Teachers whose meanings of life lie in research can both improve the quality of their life and make students experience meaningful learning. That is because teachers can improve their teaching content and method during class and students can naturally learn teachers' attitudes towards life. If teachers are continuously forced to work as a means, they can not carry out education that truly helps students. The teachers who continuously research to teach students better can achieve the good life for themselves and deliver high quality education for students.
