The main purpose of this research is to investigate the effects and influences of three main variables, such as the participation of dance extra-curriculum, the duration of participation, and grade, on the self-efficacy of elementary school students by comparing and analyzing the results from differences of variables and outcomes on self-efficacy.
In order to successfully accomplish such mission in this research, a detailed statistical method is intergraded to minimize any possibility of errors. The samples of 600 elementary students were selected from 10 different elementary schools, which have dance curriculum. The total sample population is divided into two groups of 300 samples depending on their participation of the curriculum. The total number of surveys used in this research is 564. All data is processed in SPSS 12.0, a statistical program, to calculate the means and standard deviations of main variables and to find trendsin the data. Independent variable t-test and one way ANOVA were used on main variables to prove a hypothesis about the main variables and their influence on the self-efficacy. When there was a significant statistical difference found in the data, Scheffe verification is used. Using above research methods and procedures, a conclusion on the effects and influences of main variables on self-efficacy is formed after comparing and analyzing the outcomes of statistical data.
First, after comparing the data of a main variable, the participation of the curriculum, there were significant statistical differences found between the two groups. The group which participated in dance curriculum had higher means in intelligent, social·emotional, and physical categories, which are sub-categories of self-efficacy, when compared to the other group.
Second, after comparing the data of another main variable, the duration of participation, there were significant statistical differences found in all sectors of self-efficacy including intelligent, social·emotional, and physical areas. The group, which participated in the curriculum, resulted in a statistical conclusion that the duration of participation has a strong positive correlation especially to students' social·emotional, and physical categories of self-efficacy.
Third, in the comparison of self-efficacy of different grades within the group of samples who participated in dance curriculum, there were significant statistical differences found in intelligent, social·emotional, and physical categories that the samples in lower grades displayed higher self-efficacy compared to the samples of higher grades.
Summarizing the results, I concluded that the dance extra curriculum has substantially positive influences on students such that it not only provides an opportunity to develop their own creative side but also helps develop the intelligent, social·emotional, and physical areas of students.
Therefore, there should be more opportunities for young students to join the dance extra curriculum at school and to experience and realize the reasons, meanings and values of dance curriculum during the course of learning. Furthermore, it is demanded to continue this type of researches and studies such that the dance extra curriculum can become as one of the main and fundamental academic curriculums at the entry level of learning.
