祖父母의 孫子女에 대한 敎育的 役割 期待에 관한 硏究 = The study of the expectancy of the educational role of grandparents for their grandchildren

This is a study for solving the problem of the care of children and the issue of the aged, facing this low birth late and aging society.
Since women have participated in working and economic activity. the issue of the care of children as well as the growth of the aged population from prolong of the average life span has been one of the crucial problem of this society. For solving this problem, it would be possible for children to become the future human resource of this nation, if grandparents take care of grandchildren. Moreover, mothers could focus on their job career and grandparents also financially take advantage from the taking care of their grandchildren. The problem of the solitude and alienation of the aged from the loss of their social role would be solved. It could be a counterplan for the employment of the aged if the government makes it systematically.
For these reasons, documentary research and questionnaire were performed for this study. After looking over the precedent research for the role of grandparents, the study of the type and the difficulty of the educational role of grandparents, the expectancy of reward for the educational role, and the role of step-grandparents, the effects of the educational role of grandparents, and guiding for learning of their grandchildren offers the educationally desirable role of grandparents.
The following is the result of this study.
1. The type of the educational role of grandparents; Grandparents usually point out their grandchildren' mistakes. Grandfathers, and the younger and older grandparents try to point out grandchildren' mistakes. Almost of all grandparents try to bring up their grandchildren as a healthy kids in the first place.
2. The difficulty of the educational role of grandparents; As more educational experience grandparents get, they verbally advise their grandchildren not punishing them. Most of grandparents feel difficulty performing the educational role. They have more difficulty if they have less educational experience and more grandchildren.
3. The expectancy of reward for the educational role; Most of grandparents do not want to be paid for the care of grandchildren and they do not demand the reward. On the other hand, parents want to pay for the care of their children by under 200000 won, which means that if grandparents are systematically hired for the care of grandchildren, it would be a new solution for the employment of the aged.
4. The negative opinion about the role of grandparents for the neighbors' grandchildren is higher because step-grandparents are not familiar words, so the role of step-grandparents is not understood by people.
5. The effects of the educational role of grandparents; As younger the parents are, they think their children become spoiled by grandparents.
6. The guiding for learning of grandchildren; Grandparents think they are good at teaching Chinese character which parents mostly like to be taught by grandparents.
Based on the result of this study, there comes two suggestions.
Firstly, the educational programs for training grandparents like counseling should be developed. Grandparents who have been trained should play roles for the care of children and after-school program. The local self-government should establish a system for offering opportunities to the aged for educational volunteering in child-care centre, kindergarten, and after-school program.
Secondly, to perform the desirable role of grandparents, grandparents should be changed by themselves. Grandparents who were raised in an analog world try to learn a counseling technique and understand their grandchildren' development. Grandparents also should learn how to meet the emergency, various information and knowledge for the care of children. In the old age, caring of grandchildren takes grandparents to the second life which means a lot to grandparents.
