Since the middle of 1990s, the methodologies of human resources development and management targeted to cultivating the competent persons needed in this knowledge-based society have been expanded to applying e-Learning to educational activities in most organizations including elementary , middle and high schools, universities and firms.
Also, many organizations are trying to enlarge the proportion of on-line education and training such as computer-based training, web-based training and mobile education by satellite relay which are able to transcend space and time. On the other hand, they are decreasing the amount of the traditional off-line education which have to be performed in the specific time and space. Especially, as computer and telecommunication technology are advancing, e-Learning via internet has been rapidly settling down due to the advantages of sharing up-to-date information and technology simultaneously among organizational members above the spatiotemporal constraints. Since 2002, the size of e-Learning education in terms of the expenditures and participants has become larger than that of off-line education. Consequently, in this knowledge and information age, e-Learning market has become one of the most promising markets, and also the competition among e-Learning supplies is getting more and more intense.
For successful of e-Learning business, it requires not only new technology and infrastructure but also the development and delivery of qualified contents satisfying the users through utilizing the given resources effectively to the utmost level.
In order to help the e-Learning education system effectively develop the human resources necessary in this knowledge-based society, this study empirically analyses the factors influencing on the satisfaction and achievement of e-Learners by conducting a questionnaire survey of incumbent teachers. That is, based upon the literature review in the area of educational engineering and marketing research, the concept and the normative components of e-Learning are logically defined, and four factors( learner, technology, management, teaching design) influencing on the e-Learning performance are theoretically found out. Also, the research model and hypotheses concerning the relationship between these four factors and e-Learning performance are derived through logical reasoning of the existing related studies, and then are empirically tested for incumbent teachers who have ever experienced e-Learning education.
The implication of this research are as follows: Firstly, in order to increase e-Learning performance of learners, the design of learning motivation and the continuous establishment of strategy activating the motivation for learning are required. Secondly, successful integration of the learning for the effective progress of learning is a critical factor in raising the satisfaction level of e-Learners, and also e-Learners who have technical flexibility and the ability of rapid access to the e-Learning programs tend to feel highly satisfied. Lastly, the non-realtime interaction via computer conference and e-bulletin board and the realtime interaction by means of e-mail and remote-control system are useful for collecting and communicating the diverse opinions of e-Learners, enhancing their problem solving capabilities and maintaining the high level of motivation for web-based learning.
