This study is to examine the influence of a social capital of a family on student's level of an ambition on the education and career, and a strategy of an achievement, and to find out whether the ambition on the career is the same as the strategy of the achievement and the difference between the ambition and strategy. A humanity, economy, culture, and psychological resource were determined as a sub-category of the social capital of the family, and the following subjects were set in order to achieve the purpose of the study.
First, the student's gender and the social capital of the Family are meaningfully related to the level of the ambition on the career.
Second, the student's gender and the social capital of the family are meaningfully related to the level of the ambition on the education.
Thirdly, the student's gender and the social capital of the family are meaningfully related to the strategy of career achievement.
In order to examine the subjects, 560 female and male students in the first and second year at high school, living in Sancheong-gun, Jinju-si, Kyeongsangnam-do were participated. Also, a questionnaire sheet was provided for obtaining information on student's background factors, social capitals of families, ambition on the education and career, and career achievement strategies. For data process, questions for the level of the ambition on the career and the career achievement strategy were evaluated, and the final data was processed by SPSS (12.0 Version) for Windows, t-test, One Way-Anova, Scheffe verification, Crosstaps Analysis, x2-test verification, Pearson correlation analysis, and Spearman correlation analysis.
Results obtained through the statistical analysis are as follows.
First, as a result of the question which asked about the career for student's future, the level of ambition on the career for male students was 4.37 and for female students was 4.35 out of 7 point in total, which does not show significant difference. Although there was a meaningful difference in the answers for the influence of a location of the school, an academic background of their father, and a academic record on their level of ambition on the career, there was no meaningful difference in the answers for the influence of the gender, a father's job, and a level of living. Also, it was shown that the level of the ambition on the career rated higher when the academic background of the father, the level of living, and the academic record are higher.
A coefficient of correlation (r) between the social capital and the level of the ambition on the career was 0.14, which is slightly meaningful.
Second, for the question asking for a level of the education that they want to achieve, if they can, the students answered as follows. 60.8% of students said they would like to graduate university, and 36.1% of students said they would like to do post-graduate school, which shows that most of students wish to achieve more than university graduate level for their level of the ambition on the education. Students who want to go to university in Seoul or go abroad to study are mostly if the students live in the city, having a father with a higher educational background, and with a higher level of living, compared to students living in a town or a county, having a father with a lower educational background, and with a lower level of living, who want to go to universities in Jinju-si. However, there was about 5% of a slight difference between male and female students in their level of the ambition on the location of universities. It shows that equality between male and female has been increased.
Third, for the question asking about their future career, there was a meaningful difference in the answers on a father's academic background, a father's job, a career achievement strategy according to a level of living. However, there was no difference in the answers on the gender, a location of the school, and the academic record. Lower the father's academic background, level of living, and the academic record is, higher the career achievement strategy was shown. The career achievement strategy was not high even if the level of the ambition on the career was high, and the result of two variables which are the ambition on the career and the career achievement strategy were different, when their ambitions were not related to an actual ability or there was a problem with a career guide.
A coefficient of correlation (r) between the social capital and the career achievement strategy was 0.04, which shows that the social capital and the career achievement strategy are not related.
