The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships between theory of mind and peer interaction in young children.
The main hypotheses to be tested were as follows:
1. There will be significant differences in theory of mind according to sex, age.
2. There will be significant differences in peer interaction according to sex, age.
3. There will be significant differences between theory of mind and peer interaction in young children.
4. The theory of mind in young children will be significantly predicted in the peer interaction.
To verify the hypotheses, a total of the 134 children aged between 3 to 5 were used. Test of this study had been carried out for 6 weeks.
- iii - The test tasks for measuring children's theory of mind were ① Deception Task, ② Smarties Task, and ③ Maxi Task.
Measuring for the peer interaction was used interaction test tools by Kim Sang Gyun.
Data were analyzed using SPSS(Statistical Package for Social Science Ver 12.0) for proposed hypotheses.
Main findings of the study were as follows:
1) Hypothesis 1 was not accepted. There was no significant difference in theory of mind according to sex, age.
2) Hypothesis 2 was accepted. There was significant difference in peer interaction according to sex, age.
3) Hypothesis 3 was accepted. There was significant difference between theory of mind and peer interaction in young children.
4) Hypothesis 4 was accepted. The theory of mind in young children was significantly predicted in the peer interaction.
