현대패션에 나타난 중첩(Overlapping)효과의 미적 특성

국문 초록 (Abstract)

현대 패션은 순수 예술 분야와 서로 연관성을 가지면서 변화되어 왔으며, 예술에 있어서 새로운 기법과 재료에 뒤따른 창의적인 아이디어들은 모든 미술에 있어서의 다양한 표현방식을 이끌어내었다. 또한 예술은 다원화와 대중화라는 이름으로 그 영역을 확장해 가고 있으며, 예술의 다원화의 의미로 패션에까지 영역을 확장하고 있다. 예술에 의해 영향을 받은 패션은 다양한 표현방식으로 나타나고 있으며, 보다 미적인 특성으로 발전시켜 표현하고 있다. 패션은 현대로 접어들면서 일정한 틀을 벗어남과 동시에 주관적으로 느껴지는 아름다움에 대한 미적 가치를 중요하게 여기게 되었다.
따라서 본 논문은 새로운 변화에 부흥하여 나타나게 된 중첩의 미적 효과의 기초가 되는 회화와, 건축에서 다양하게 나타난 중첩의 미적 특성에 대하여 알아보고, 현대패션에 다양한 표현으로 나타난 중첩의 미적 특성을 이해하는데 그 목적이 있다.
중첩의 특성은 중첩의 효과를 극대화하여 표현할 수 있는 미적 특정인 반복성, 투명성, 연속성 세 가지로 구분하여 설명하였다. 반복적 특성은 모양의 반복으로 얻어지는 조형적 효과로 시각적 통일성이 강해지고, 단위형태들이 반복 구성의 견고한 집합체로 보이는 특징을 갖고 있다. 투명적 특성은 공간적 깊이와 질서를 파악하는 방편이며, 전면과 후면을 통하여 보여 지는 실체적 속성을 의미한다. 연속적 특성은 공간의 인식 혹은 지각적 측면에서의 연결이며, 이는 공간에 내포된 가치체계 이거나, 혹은 시지각적 경험의 연속성 부여를 위한 공간 구성요소의 적절한 사용에 의해서 얻어질 수 있음을 알 수 있다.
현대 패션에 나타난 중첩효과의 미적 특성의 연구결과는 다음과 같다.
반복적 특성에 의하여 나타난 강조를 위한 집단적 표현은 동일한 의복 자체나 의복의 일정한 부분을 집단적으로 중첩시키는 것에 의하여 발생함을 알 수 있다. 또한 동일한 의복 자체나 의복의 일정한 부분을 집단적으로 중첩시키는 것을 의미하며, 통일된 패턴에서 집중이 됨으로써 그 형태를 더 강조함을 알 수 있다. 장식적 표현의 반복은 스커트 밑단, 네크라인이나 소매 끝, 칼라에 소재를 중첩하여 장식적인 화려함을 나타냄을 알 수 있다. 유희적 표현의 반복은 일상적인 소재를 다소 변형하여 모방, 과장하거나 혹은 부적절한 위치에 적용하여 뜻밖의 놀라움과 우스꽝스러움의 효과를 나타냄을 알 수 있다.
투명적 특성은 소재의 중첩에 의한 현상적 투명성으로 표현할 수 있는데, 현대패션으로 오면서 여성의 신체미를 드러내는 의상이 점차 늘어나고 있다. 중첩 표현의 한 기법인 투명성으로 신체미를 드러내어 표현함을 알 수 있다. 즉, 비치는 원단을 사용하여 겹침에 의한 통합적 특징과 더불어 신체의 드러남의 이중적 특성이 동시에 존재하게 된다. 또한, 색의 중첩에 의한 투명성은 색의 중첩에 의한 투명성은 비치는 소재의 사용과 함께 배색의 소재를 중첩하여 사용함으로써 중첩의 미적 특징을 더욱 더 효과적으로 표현할 수 있는 것이다. 색은 명도와 색상 그 자체만을 가지고 투명성을 표현할 수 있다.
연속성 특성은 동일한 형태를 한 방향으로 반복적으로 겹침으로서 움직임의 표현효과를 나타내는 것이다. 일정한 중복 배치는 방향성이 있는 배치로서 자동 운동적인 착시 효과로 인하여 방향성을 가진 반복성이 나타남을 알 수 있다. 중첩되어 상호관입공간에서는 부분적으로 공유공간이 형성되어지고, 이에 따라서 공간적인 연속성이 나타나게 되며 각 공간은 본래의 특성과 범위를 유지하면서 방향적 성격을 지닌 연속성이 교차되고, 그 결과로 역동적 성격을 지닌 연속성이 나타남을 알 수 있다.
중첩은 창작을 위해 다양한 내용이나 형식에 차용이나 인용을 용이하게 할 수 있는 새로운 방식이며, 패션에서도 중첩에 대한 새로운 시각과 다양한 해석이 가능함을 제시하였으며, 중첩은 형태 창조와 변형에 무한한 가능성과 새로운 조형의식의 틀을 마련함을 알 수 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

History of modern fashion has a relevance to pure art. Creative ideas accompanied by new techniques and materials have developed various methods of expressions in all arts. Realm of art has expanded with pluralism and popularization, even to the world of fashion. Fashion, influenced by art, has created various techniques of expressions, which became more aesthetic. Now modern fashion rejects a stereotype and put more emphasis on subjective beauty.
The purpose of this study, therefore, is to identify aesthetic characteristics of overlapping that is basically found in paintings and architecture and understand it in the aspect of modern fashion.
Characteristics of overlapping in this study are explained in three categories such as repetitiveness, transparency and continuance that maximize the overlapping effect. Repetitiveness is a formative effect produced through repeating certain forms. It strengthens visual unity and creates solid combination of repetitive units. Transparency is a substantial characteristic seen through front and rear. It is also a way to grasp depth and order of space. Continuance is recognition of a space or a connection of spaces in the perceptual aspect. It is a value system in the space. It can be created through proper use of space factors that gives continuance of visual and perceptual experiences. The result of the study is found below.
Collective expressions of repetitiveness can be generated by collectively overlapping apparels or certain parts of apparel. It can bring a focus on single pattern and highlight it even more. Repeating decorative expressions can be created by overlapping materials in skirt hem, neckline, collar and sleeves. Playful repetition can express unexpected surprise and fun by changing ordinary materials in greater or lesser degree, imitating, exaggerating them or applying them in improper position.
Transparency is phenomenal transparency by overlapping materials. Apparels that reveal beauty of feminine body have been popular in modern fashion. The transparency, a technique of overlapping, can express and highlight the beauty of body. Transparent fabric can reveal the beauty of body and generate overall overlapping effect at the same time. And transparency by overlapping colors is able to express more effectively the aesthetic characteristics of overlapping by using the transparent fabrics and coloration. Color can express the transparency with brightness and color itself.
Continuance expresses motion effect by repetitively overlapping the same pattern to one direction. Consistent overlapping arrangement is one directional arrangement, causing an optical illusion of automatic motions. Overlapping forms a shared space in the space of interpenetration, which creates continuance in the space. Each space maintains its original characteristic and sphere where directional continuance intersects each other and creates dynamic continuance.
Overlapping is a new technique that can be readily used in various contents and forms for creation. This study suggests new viewpoints and different interpretations on overlapping in the fashion world, showing overlapping offers unlimited potential in creating and changing forms and new frame of formative awareness.
