The purpose of this study is to find out the impact the Internet Addiction Prevention Group Counseling Program for high school has on the amount of time students spend on the internet games, The Internet game addiction diagnostic scale, self-control scale and the Korean internet self-diagnostic test were included as well.
The Participants were 60 high school boys selected from 2 schools in Daejeon. The experimental groups of 3 classes (30 students) were treated with Internet Addiction Prevention Group Counseling Program. The control groups of 3 classes (30 students) were treated with a Program of Sexual Values.
The amount of time spent on internet games, the scale of dangers of internet game addiction, and self-control scale of the experimental group were taken and compared with those of the control group.
The results of the study are as follows :
1. The analysis of the amount of time spent on Internet games during weekends showed that experimental group were significantly higher than the control group.
2. The scale of dangers of internet game addiction showed that The experimental group were significantly higher than the control group.
3. The self-control scale showed that the experimental group were insignificantly higher than the control group.
The implications of the study is as follows. First, The decrease of the amount of time spent on Internet games during weekends led to an increase of time control ability for high school students. Also a decrease of the scale of dangers of Internet game addiction has increased the management of game addiction. Therefore this paper can be used effectively on the prevention of Internet addiction for general high school students. Secondly, this program was effective within in 6 hours; this result was more powerful than others. Finally, the participants were not a middle school student but a high school student. It is a useful generalization of the Internet addiction prevention program.
