This study aims at providing the basic data in order to solve the problems such as an unbalanced diet by means of investigation on the influence of the cooking activities related with the family about preschool children's eating patterns and an unbalanced diet.
To achieve purpose of study, following research problems and hypotheses were established.
Research problem 1. How is the influence of cooking activity related with the family on the solution to the preschool children's diet habits?
Hypothesis 1. The experimental group having an experience of cooking activity related with the family get better marks for eating habit improvement in comparison with the comparative group.
1-1. The experimental group get better marks for preparing the table in comparison with the comparative group.
1-2. The experimental group get better marks for giving thanks before meal in comparison with the comparative group.
1-3. The experimental group get better marks for eating with a good posture in comparison with the comparative group.
1-4. The experimental group get better marks for eating foods without distinction in comparison with the comparative group.
1-5. The experimental group get better marks for putting in order after meal in comparison with the comparative group.
Research problem 2. How is the influence of cooking activity related with the family on the solution to the preschool children's an unbalanced diet?
Hypothesis 2. The experimental group having an experience of cooking activity related with the family get better marks for an unbalanced diet improvement in comparison with the comparative group.
First of all, as a methodology, the research was conducted to 60 children in five-year olders of Y kindergarten and B kindergarten located in the Seo-gu of In-cheon.
The research methods as a preliminary inspection, food preferences were examined using Food Tendency & Eat Habits Research List made by Jeoung Hyeon Nam (2000). The Before & After Check Lists for infants which Kim Hyeon Sook developed in 2004 were modified properly in this research to make out infant's unbalanced diet.
The eating habits guidance program which Kim Doo Rye developed in 2001 was sent to children's parents for free test to know before & after eating habits effects.
Cooking activities were carried out to the experimental group as a small group activity in free choice activity time for 10 weeks from October 2nd to December 2nd, once a week, total of 10 times. The pretest, experiment treatment, post test were processed in order.
The experimental group who consisted of 6 children in every group, took cooking activity classes in free choice activity time, After school, they had the food they made by themselves, took it to their home and ate it having a conversation about their food with their parents. What they talked about with having a food should be written in the home correspondence to get their reaction. Meanwhile, the comparative group took ordinary classes such as chapters of Our country, Many countries in the world, The earth, The universe.
Post test was processed for 4 days after food activities, from December 18 to 21. Post test was carried out with the same check lists of children and parents for pretest in the same way. In the case of the comparative group, the chapter of Winter was taught as a curriculum.
The pretest & post test mean and frequency between experimental group and comparative group were computed as data analysis. And T-test was used to make the difference between the two group shown in pretest and post test. The SPSS 11.0 Package program was used to handle data.
The summaries of this study are as the follows;
1. Food activity related with the family makes children change eating habits and attitudes, especially preparing the table, overcoming dislike foods.
2. In the result of research, food activity related with the family has positive effects on diminishing rejection on special foods and alleviating unbalanced diet.
