    ABSTRACT

    The effects of dramatized activities using creative fairy tales on young children´s comprehension and expression

    The purpose of this study is to find the effects of the dramatized activity on the expression and comprehension, using the creative fairy tales and to search the difference by sex in the effects of the dramatized activity.

    The study dealt with followings to achieve the purpose.

    1. How does the creative fairy tales affects children's comprehension?
    1-1. What is different in children's comprehension between the group, which does dramatized activity using creative fairy tales, and the control group.

    1-2. In the group which carried out the dramatized activity through the creative fairy tales, does the dramatized activity have an effect differently on the comprehension by sex?

    2. How does the creative fairy tales play affects children's expression?
    2-1. What is different in children's expression between the group, which does dramatized activity using creative fairy tales, and the control group?

    2-2. In the group which carried out the dramatized activity through the creative fairy tales, does the dramatized activity have an effect differently on the expression by sex?

    The subjects of this investigation were forty children including, two group, each with twenty children aged five years from a D and Y kindergartens in Gyeong-Gi province. For this surveying, Kim's (2004) the illustrated book selection standards were selected and ten most frequently used juvenile stories were chosen. For surveying comprehension ability, Lim's (1995) and Kim's modifications (2005), based on the research of Morrow (1984) were utilized. Similarly, for surveying the lingual expression, Park's modification (2001), based on the Cho's research of the Illinois Test of Psycholinguisties (S.A. Kirk et al, 1984)

    For statistical analysis, significance of divergence between tested group and control group in the expression ability and comprehension ability and divergences in their age and gender, the paired sample t-test was performed using SPSS-Win 14.0 computer statistical program.

    The findings of this study were as follow:

    First, the children group who experienced listening to a creative fairy tales and then playing creative fairy tales play were significantly progressive comprehension ability compared to the children group who did not experience that. In this study, Children listened a fairy tales carefully and then memorized sequences of scenes and expressed those scenes naturally.

    Second, the children grouped in the test group played creative fairy tales play were significantly progressive expression compared to the children group who did not experience that. the children who experienced playing creative fairy tales play expressed more various word and sentences than the children who did not experience that.

    Third, in children grouped by gender, scores of comprehension and expression of the test group, girls had more significantly progressive comprehension and expression than boys. Boys need to careful consideration in the selection of topic and prepare of props in creative fairy tales play.

    Therefore, Kindergarten teachers can have the progressive mutual subjectivity, lingual comprehension ability and expression ability of children of the age as selection fairy tales books with good pictures and playing creative fairy tales play, instead of conventional lecture by being read fairy tales.
