This study investigates that by means of reformulation, a method of feedback on form errors in student writing, a teacher makes students notice and correct the difference of their writing from the reformulated writing of native speaker, and whether the reformulation is effective and influential in correcting form errors by students. It is finally suggested that reformulation is the effective method on writing feedback. The first research question is to analyze statistically whether the reformulation, as feedback method in second language writing, is effective for reduction of students' form errors in their writing. The second research question is to describe the students' noticing through reformulation.
Twenty(20) Korean language students at a second level were classified into two different groups with; (a) reformulation feedback treatment, (b) no-feedback treatment as a control group. All the participants had two writing tasks, original writing and subsequent writing which were compared and analyzed. Providing definite feedback, the criterion of reformulation feedback is settled on meeting grammatical, vocabulary and communicational aspects through reformulation feedback and the types of from errors are categorized. The results of this study is as follows.
First, there is a significant difference on form errors in student writing between two groups; one with treatment of reformulation feedback and the others with no treatment. It shows that reformualtion feedback on form errors in student writing is the effective method.
Second, as a result of analyzing about students with reformulation feedback, student noticing through reformulation feedback provides the opportunities to read and correct form errors for themselves. So it shows the important reduction on form errors through that process.
Based on the result of this study, reformulation feedback on correction is effective method. It is clarified because student noticing occurs with intermediation of reformulation feedback. In addition, noticing encourages the quality of student writing in case of coincident occurrence between student comment and noticing. That is, when student noticing is expressed externally the effect of reformulation feedback is multiplied.
This study tries out to discuss that the method of reformulation feedback emphasizes student active noticing regarded the effective method in Korean writing education of second language. in Korean writing education, the investigation into effective feedback method on form errors in student writing extends progressively and variously.
