Above all, the study investigated what difference of physical exercise participation and rearing attitude demographical attributes make, in order to see effect of parent's rearing attitude perceived by children on physical exercise participation. In addition, the purpose of the study was to look at how related parent's rearing attitude perceived by children is with physical exercise participation and which factors in particular out of various factors of parent's rearing attitude perceived by children make children interested in physical exercise participation in order to find its influence. The findings from the study are as follows.
The study distributed questionnaires to 649 students of middle school 2nd grade in Gangnam and Gangseo-gu, Seoul and analyzed recollected 509 questionnaires.
Collected data was processed with SPSS win 12.0 program for frequency analysis, crosstabulation analysis, descriptive statistics, T-test, One-way ANOVA, χ²(Chi-square), correlation analysis and multiple linear regression(MLR) depending on study issue. Duncan test was used for a post-test.
The analysis result is as follows.
First, in the result of analysis of parent's rearing attitude perceived by children in accordance with demographical attributes, it showed statistically significant difference in mother's affectionate/hostile factors and girl students are relatively more perceived than boy students. It also showed that the higher parent's education is and the wealthier, the more positive children perceive father's and mother's rearing attitude.
Second, having analyzed physical exercise participation (of curriculum and extracurricular voluntary) in accordance with demographical attributes, by gender boy students showed high perception of interests in physical exercise subject, physical exercise participation, physical exercise subject necessity in case of curricular physical exercise participation. By economic situation, relatively wealthier students' attitude in physical exercise classes was good. By area, students in Gangnam showed a bit more physical exercise subject interest and physical exercise participation. In case of extracurricular voluntary physical exercise participation, there was a difference by gender as 144 boy students (50.5%) participate while 48 girl students (21.4%) do. By economic situation, relatively wealthier students were more participating. As for extracurricular voluntary physical exercise participation frequency, relatively wealthier students' participation was relatively more. As for participation period, there was a difference by gender as boy students with more than 2 years participation was 65 students (45.1%) while girl students with less than 6 months was 20 students (41.7%). As for participating event, the result from multiple choices showed gender difference as boy showed soccer (48.3%) and then basket ball (41.3%) while girls chose free gymnastics and rope-jumping (31.9%) and then basket ball (17.0%). Even though it was a bit different by parent's education, economic situation and area, generally soccer and basket ball were most participated and then badminton, free gymnastics and rope-jumping followed. As for whether students did extracurricular voluntary physical exercise participation in the past or not, it showed that the higher father's education is, the more participated in extracurricular voluntary physical exercises they were. As for whether to participate again in future or not, intention to participate in extracurricular voluntary physical exercises was the highest when father's education is below middle school graduation(p>.05).
Third, having analyzed relation between parent's rearing attitude perceived by children and physical exercise participation (of curriculum and extracurricular voluntary), father's affectionate/hostile factors showed static correlation with interests in curricular physical exercise subjects, class participation, class attitude and physical exercise subject necessity. Voluntary-control factors showed static correlation with curricular physical exercise class participation. Achieving/non-achieving factors showed static correlation with curricular physical exercise class participation, class attitude and physical exercise subject necessity. Reasonable/unreasonable factors showed static correlation with curricular physical exercise class attitude and physical exercise subject necessity. Having analyzed correlation between mother's rearing attitude and physical exercise (of curriculum and extracurricular voluntary), mother's affectionate/hostile factors showed static correlation with curricular physical exercise class attitude and physical exercise subject necessity. Voluntary-control factors showed static correlation with curricular physical exercise class attitude. Achieving/non-achieving factors showed static correlation with curricular physical exercise class participation, physical exercise subject interest, class attitude and physical exercise subject necessity. Reasonable/unreasonable factors showed static correlation with curricular physical exercise class attitude. Having analyzed correlation between mother's rearing attitude and extracurricular physical exercise participation, voluntary-control factors showed static correlation with extracurricular physical exercises frequency.
Fourth, having analyzed how parent's rearing attitude perceived by children influences physical exercise participation (of curriculum and extracurricular voluntary), in light of effect by parent's rearing attitude perceived by children on curricular physical exercise participation, it showed the more controlling by father and the less controlling by mother, the more participating in physical exercise class by children. As for interest in curricular physical exercise, in light of voluntary/control factors of parent's rearing attitude perceived by children, it showed the more controlling by father and the less controlling by mother, the more interested in physical exercise class by children. Father's affectionate rearing attitude also showed helping. As for curricular physical exercise necessity, the more achieving of father's rearing attitude perceived by children, the more needed of children's physical exercise but extracurricular physical exercise participation frequency, period and time did not show significant influence.
In conclusion, in light of effect by parent's rearing attitude perceived by children on curricular physical exercise participation, parent's voluntary-control factors influence curricular physical exercise participation and physical exercise subject interest. Father's affectionate-hostile factors showed significant effect on physical exercise subject interest. For the necessity of curricular physical exercise class, father's achieving rearing attitude showed helpful by which parent's rearing attitude perceived by children showed to play a important role for curricular physical exercise participation by children. Therefore, the study will provide base data to show what attitude parent must have and must support children with to rear then so that their children actively participate with unlimited challenge and get a will to achieve what they want.
