영화<친절한 금자씨>의 복식과 상징성에 관한 연구 : 주인공 복식을 중심으로

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this essay is to study the expressed form and color and also to examine the inner symbolic meaning of the movie “Sympathy for Lady Vengeance” by producer Chan-Wook Park, which is considered as a masterpiece both in and out of Korea at the current period which is the period of upphase of Korean movie.
As a researching method, it centered multiple forms of the heroine of the movie, and considered whole images of clothing including character's clothing at each scenes, decoration, hair style, and make up.
First, we took a look at the total 10 clothing of the main character, and for the actual research for symbolism examination, it centered 8 pieces of priority clothing.
For the abstract research background, we analyzed documents related to movie both in and out of Korea and essay, for symbolism research we referred DVD of the movie <Sympathy for Lady Vengeance>, other visual sources, internet, magazine and etc.
In the movie, the main character Geumja has double personality, having both images of a wicked woman and a woman saint, and she showed the clothing of both good and evil.
For example, while she was in prison, her prisoner uniform while she was taking care of her inmates, her pajama which is the symbol of innocence when she was atoning and praying, Geumja's appearance wasn't fabulous when she was wearing baker's cloth that symbolize pure inside, and it also expressed Geumja's pure inside and nature by using upright hair style, no make-up face, and bright color.
But in contrast, Geumja who was released from prison planned and execute vengeance, dress colorful dress and primary color make-ups.
Blue color coat with gloomy mood, black leather coat with the image of female warrior, and the slip with intensive image and etc express Geumja's will of revenge. During the vengeance process, Geumja emphasize about violent words and action, and present gloomy atmosphere with dark colored background.
Moreover in the movie <Sympathy for Lady Vengeance>, meaningful colors were used and took the role of symbol.
Red color represented Geumja's courage and wrath and simultaneously was used as the color that protects Geumja. Black color with intensive feeling represented Geumja's threat and fear, and blue color with gloomy feeling made the images of Geumja with many stories who pursues her revenge.
But in contrast, bright colors used for ivory color pajama, beige color baker's clothing, prisoner's uniform of pale yellow color, were used to effectively depict Geumja's pure and innocent nature.
Like this, depend on the psychology of main character Geumja, it's easy to recognize the change of clothing and color, and it's possible to understand the symbolic meaning in it.
This research through the movie <Sympathy for Lady Vengeance> allowed symbolic role of multiple forms could represent the theme what the director tried to express and moreover it was used asa method that helped to effectively understand the flow of the movie.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

한국 영화의 호황기를 맞이하고 있는 지금 대내외적으로 작품성을 인정받은 박찬욱 감독의 영화<친절한 금자씨(2005) “Sympathy for Lady Vengeance”>에 표현된 복식과 색채를 알아보고, 작품에 내재된 상징적 의미를 규명하는데 논문의 목적이 있다.
연구 방법으로는 영화의 여주인공 복식을 중심으로 하였으며, 각 장면에 따른 인물의 의상, 장식, 헤어, 메이크업 등 총체적인 의복의 이미지를 고찰 하였다. 먼저, 영화 속 주인공의 의상인 총 10벌에 대해 살펴보았으며, 상징성 규명을 위한 실증적 연구로는 중점적 의상 8벌을 중심으로 하였다. 이론적 연구 배경을 위해 국내외 영화 및 복식 관련 문헌과 논문을 참고 하였으며, 영화 <친절한 금자씨>의 DVD등의 영상 자료를 중심으로 시각 자료, 인터넷, 잡지 등을 참고하였다.
영화 <친절한 금자씨>는 1980년대부터 2005년 까지를 배경으로, 주인공 의상은 13년간의 수감생활로 인해 복고에 머문 패션 감각을 그대로 반영하는 동시에 극의 분위기와 스토리에 맞물리는 독특하고 세련된 복고 스타일로, 색채와 함께 상징적 의미를 만들어 내었다.
영화 속 금자는 악녀와 성녀의 이미지를 동시에 지닌 이중적인 인물로 극과 극의 의상을 선보였다. 예컨대 교도소 수감 시절에 동료들을 보살피는 금자의 모범수 복, 원모에게 속죄하며 기도 할 때의 결백의 상징인 잠옷, 순수한 내면을 상징하는 제빵사 복 등에서 보여지는 금자의 외모는 화려하지 않으며, 단정한 머리, 화장기 없는 얼굴, 밝은 색을 사용하여 금자의 순수한 내면과 깨끗한 본성의 금자를 표현하였다.
반면 교도소를 출소한 금자는 복수를 계획하고 실행하면서 원색적인 화장에 화려한 색깔과 무늬의 의상을 입었다. 파란색의 우울한 분위기의 코트, 여 전사 이미지의 검은색 가죽 코트, 강렬한 이미지의 슬립 등은 금자의 복수 실행 의지를 표현한 것이다. 복수 과정에서도 금자는 폭력적인 대사와 행동을 강조하고 배경은 어두운 색으로 암울한 분위기를 연출했다.
또한 <친절한 금자 씨>에서는 의미 있는 색채를 사용하여 상징적 역할을 하였다. 빨간색은 금자의 용기와 분노를 나타내는 동시에 금자의 보호색으로 사용되었다. 강렬한 느낌의 검은색은 금자의 위협과 공포를 나타냈고 우울한 느낌의 파란색으로 복수 정진하는 사연 많은 금자의 이미지를 만들어냈다. 반면 아이보리 색 잠옷과 베이지 색 제빵사복, 옅은 노란색인 미색의 죄수복 등에 사용된 고운 색상의 옷은 금자의 순수하고 깨끗한 본성을 효과적으로 나타내는 수단이었다. 이와 같이 주인공 금자의 심리에 따라 영화 의상과 색채의 변화가 두드러짐을 알 수 있으며 그 속에 내재된 상징적인 의미를 이해 할 수 있었다.
본 연구는 영화 <친절한 금자씨>를 통해 복식의 상징적 역할이 감독이 표현하고자 하는 주제 의식을 나타내게 할 뿐만 아니라 영화의 흐름을 효과적으로 이해시키는데 중요한 수단이 될 수 있음을 알 수 있었다.
