The purpose of this study was to examine the development stage of teachers instructing the Korean language, to provide them with collegical supervision, and ultimately to help improve retraining geared toward teachers teaching the Korean language in colleges. The findings of the study were expected to contribute to facilitating the implementation of surveys on Korean teachers' needs for retraining and the development of retraining programs, and the computer program used to offer collegical supervision could be employed as a tool to make an objective comparison and analysis of lessons provided by different teachers.Chapter 1 described the necessity and purpose of the study and introduced relevant earlier studies. As teacher retraining hasn't be viewed as important, the reason why having a discussion on this issue was mandatory was stated, and in which direction this study moved forward was explained. It's planned in the study to gauge the development stage of teachers, to suggest a supervision program geared toward expediting the development of individual teachers and to verify the effectiveness of the program.Chapter 2 depicted the theoretical background for the study. After offering an overview of theories of teacher development stage, different teacher development stages were selected. As for collegical supervision, the background and necessity of collegical supervision were mentioned, and supervision methods were explained. Major changes in research trend on teacher development stage and collegical supervision were summarized, and what roles the two played in association with teacher retraining was discussed.Chapter 3 gave a brief introduction of three research methods used in the study, and one of the research methods for collegical supervision was described. Cogan's Supervision Model, Flanders Interaction Analysis System and journalling were utilized to research collegical supervision, and a specific explanation was given about those methods.Chapter 4 stated how a survey was conducted on teacher development stage and what results it produced. The subjects and procedure of the study were mentioned, and the results of a group factor analysis and correlational analysis were described. As a result of making an analysis, the largest number of the Korean teachers investigated were in a stability or depression stage, and career and employment condition were identified as factors that had a significant impact on their development stage.Chapter 5 investigated and analyzed the reality of teacher education provided by colleges. After interviewees and an interview method were determined, retraining program provided by different institutions were compared, and then the whole results were analyzed. And it's found that although different retraining programs were offered according to the size and nature of the institutions, all the institutions viewed collegical conference as the most effective and practical retraining program.Chapter 6 looked into the reality of collegical supervision, and proposed the kind of collegical supervision method that could improve collegical conference to enhance teacher instruction. After some teachers were selected as mutual colleagues, they discussed what to handle in collegical supervision, and then conducted instruction as planned. Whether there were any changes in their instruction was checked to prove the effect of collegical supervision.Chapter 7 reached a conclusion and made a suggestion about college retraining that caters to teachers teaching the Korean language.
