This study aims to explore how social support influences adolescent' s life satisfaction by examining into following aspects.
First, how adolescent is actually is;
Second, if there is any difference in social support by the general feature of adolescent;
Third, if there is any difference in life satisfaction by the general feature;
Finally, how social support influences adolescent's life satisfaction.
To achieve this goal, this study distributed questionnaires to the two protection facilities such as one juvenile reformatory, and two child-care facilities located in Seoul and Gyeonggi-region by 300 copes, 279 of which were used for analysis except for 21.
The scale of social support were utilized with that of Social Support Appraisal Scale(SSAS) developed by Dubow and Ullman (1989) and translated by Kim Myung Sook (1994), modified and complemented by Kim yeon Hee(1999),and scale of life satisfaction with that of produced by Kim Eui Cheol and Park Young Shin (1999) which is composed of 4 sub-areas of 7 items for home life satisfaction, 7 items for school life satisfaction, 7 items for leisure life satisfaction, and 9 items for self-satisfaction. The collected questionnaires was electronically processed using the statistic program, SPSS(Statistical Package for Social Science) 11.0, and analyzed as follows. Frequency analysis was conducted for general specifics, t-verification and one-way variant analysis for difference in social support and life satisfaction, and finally multi-regression analysis for effect of social support on life satisfaction.
The findings indicated through this study are was follows.
First, the result of investigation into difference in adolescent's social support by sex, religion, with or without school life, and accommodation life period was indicated to be not significant difference. However, life satisfaction by religion was indicated to be different at leisure life satisfaction and home life satisfaction by p<.01 level respectively. And the result of post-verification of leisure life satisfaction and family life satisfaction with significant difference was indicated to be higher in Christianity than in Catholic and atheism, and family life satisfaction was to be higher in atheism than Christianity.
Third, the result of effect of social support on life satisfaction was indicated that friends' support, experts' support, teachers' support influence life satisfaction. Sub-variable of life satisfaction, school life satisfaction, was indicated that experts' support, friends' support have an effect, and finally self-satisfaction self-satisfaction was indicated that friends' support and teachers' support have an effect. And the result of investigation into effect of social support on adolescent's life satisfaction was indicated that friends' support, experts' support, teachers' support except parents' support influence life satisfaction.
