ABSTRACT
The purpose of this research is to propose the basic data that are needed for a curriculum of a special school, special class and vocational rehabilitation institution by the comparison of thoughts among employers, teachers and students about primary factors of mentally retarded person's professional success. In case of a mentally retarded person, the education for the retarded aims for the student’s independent life and their positive participation, but their parents and teachers take considerable responsibility of making educational decisions. Therefore, for professional success in particular, it is meaningful to compare employers’ thoughts with family support of their parents, vocational education and future guidance of teachers in the ecological point of view.
The primary conclusions of the research are as follow.
First, the factors of professional success considered by employers, parents and teachers are in order of groups like ① vocation related group, ② personal technical group, ③ social technical group, ④ communication technical group.
Second, the top five factors which employers, parents and teachers think of are in order like ① do one's work well. ② adapt oneself to a new working environment. ③ understand well the process of one’s working, ④ be interested in one's work, ⑤ perform one's work efficiently.
As investigate groups of employers, parents and teachers respectively, there is a small difference, but not meaningful. It may be like that because participants are teachers who teach above high school students and parents whose children are above third-year high school students. It is not easy to find a correct reason, but it can be found if it is studied widely in a new research. This phenomenon displays that there is little difference between teachers who plan and make vocational curriculums and parents who help students' working life.
In spite of the fact that the directions of special school's vocational education and vocational rehabilitation institutions are very similar, it should be reconsidered that the percentage of employment of mentally retardation persons is very low. The conclusions of this research instruct that the technical group related to vocation and personal technical group should be increased so that the mental retardation person can carry out their job successfully. In other word, when making a curriculum in special education, it means to try to improve substantially, in a broad sense, technology related to vocation and personal skills rather than simple working skills.
